D-Day and the battle for Normandy

This section contains background information on the Normandy campaign, and especially the Gold Juno Sword area of operations.

The battle for Normandy started june 6th, 1944 when the Allied forces landed on the continent of Europe after years of preperations and ended almost three months later on august 23 when the German forces were trapped and destroyed during the battle for the Falaise Pocket.
