Management
The Wargamer's management staff consists of an eclectic group of individuals
with backgrounds ranging from military service to information technology to
sales and marketing to financial services. While their backgrounds may
differ widely, The Wargamer's management staff does share one thing in common:
gaming. If you wish to contact any particular individual, please email editor@wargamer.com.
Chris Abele
Director of Publishing & Site Management
Atlanta, Georgia
Chris Abele is responsible for publishing the steady stream of content on The Wargamer, including the publication of all articles and news stories. Although he initially started PC gaming with flight sims, he now primarily plays
squad-level games. Chris is The Wargamer's tactical FPS expert, having appeared in such publications as PC Gamer, USA Today and the New York Times. When not managing his various responsibilities with The Wargamer, Chris works as a corporate financial analyst and is an avid tennis player in Atlanta, Georgia.
Mike Dorn
Director of Public Relations
Lewiston, Michigan
Chiefly involved in the scouting/recon element for The Wargamer, Mike talks to companies about upcoming games and our coverage. Mike is a past grognard with wargaming experience back to the early 70s and the heyday of SPI/AH. He continues to play wargames, but gravitates more toward strategy games more at this time.
Michael Eckenfels
Director, Review and Preview Production
Houston, Texas
Michael Eckenfels is a technical writer for the IT industry, and when not dwelling in the overwhelming excitement that field offers, likes to admire his dusty collection of just about every board wargame known to man— collected since the mid-1970s. He writes feature articles for several sports web sites, writes occasionally for Games Unplugged Magazine, is an avid computer gaming aficionado (starting on the ancient VIC-20 and working his way up to his some what more modern Pentium III), and is a dedicated military historian. He is forum moderator for several Wargamer.com discussion areas, including for Schwerpunkt (RGW and AGW) and ProSim
(BCT Commander).
Kevin Scholl
Senior Developer and Graphic Designer
Mechanicsville, Virginia
Kevin is a visual communications specialist who, for the past several years, has offered his skills to The Wargamer as a graphic designer and Web developer. His versatile skill set includes HTML, XHTML, DHTML, Javascript, CSS, and all facets of design and graphics creation. In direct relation to these skills, he also possesses advanced knowledge of cross-browser and usability issues.
Kevin earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in Fine Arts and in History from the College of William and Mary, and a Master of Science degree in general Computer Science from James Madison University. He was named to the Millennium Edition of the Lexington Who's Who Among Professionals and Executives, and is recognized by the International Association of Web Masters and Designers for his design and interface work on several Web sites.
When he's able to find time (which in his mind isn't nearly often enough) he prefers to settle into the space combat simulation genre, particularly the Wing Commander series. He has created and maintains a fictional
Web site based in the Wing Commander era
as well as various other related Web sites. His personal site is Phoenix
Rising.
Peter von Kleinsmid
Senior Editor & Writer
Seattle, Washington
Peter was the Executive Editor of The Wargamer from March 1999 until March 2001. He edited most of The Wargamer's reviews and articles in that period. Since then, he's been developing computer games. Currently he edits or writes occasional articles, maintains the HPS Simulations section, and assists as his time allows.
Jim Zabek
Editor-in-Chief
Atlanta, Georgia
Jim Zabek is the Executive Editor for The Wargamer where he manages the content flow and publication dates for reviews and articles on the site. He has been a dedicated gamer since he was 10 years old. Beginning with Avalon Hill's Panzer Blitz and Starship Troopers, he quickly expanded his gaming scope to more complex games such as Dungeons & Dragons. He played early computer games on both Mac and PC platforms, though these days it's basically XP with the occasional boardgame thrown in to shake the cobwebs loose. Jim reads eclectically and occasionally even writes about some of the things he's reading or playing for The Wargamer.
