Holy moley, folks. DICE and EA have announced that when Battlefield 1943 his the shelves this June, the 360 and PS3 versions will be debuting at $15 a copy. The PC version of the game will hit shelves in September - no word on whether this price will also cover that version, too.
Using its Frostbite game engine, Battlefield 1943, the latest in a hugely successful franchise, will offer a fully destructable environment. Three classic maps will be available for the game: Wake Island, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima. Unsurprisingly, players can take either the US Marines or Imperial Japanese Navy as a side. True to its combined arms style of play, gamers may enjoy ground combat, vehicles, planes and ships. The multiplayer game will allow up to 24 gamers to play on a server.
"Using the same Frostbite engine that we developed for Battlefield: Bad Company, we are able to take players back to WWII and return to the roots of the Battlefield franchise, but with a new twist – destruction,” said Gordon Van Dyke, Producer on Battlefield 1943. “We want to offer gamers the most accessible online shooter experience and the best value found in any premium download title with Battlefield 1943.”
