The Battle of Borodino was fought on 7 September 1812. Here Napoleon I, at the head of the French Grande Armée, engaged the Imperial Russian army of Mikhail Kutuzov west of Moscow?at Borodino. Involving more than 250,000 troops and resulting in over 70,000 casualties, historically this was the largest loss of life in any single action of Napoleon?s Russian campaign.
