News Round-Up - Tanks and Space Marines

By Marcello Perricone 24 Feb 2017 0

Welcome back to our weekly wrap up of some of the more interesting bits of news and happenings in the world of wargaming. Joe is on holiday this week, so I'll be covering the News Round up today; be patient, and in case I get something wrong, let me know in the comments below!

Matrix Games/Slitherine

The first official update of Strategic Command WWII: War in Europe is finally available for download, bringing with it a huge list of improvements. Among several bug fixes, the “Garand” Update increases the Soviet Shock Army Build Time from 1 to 4 months and allows Vichy France to deploy its navy if it joins the Axis or Allies for the 1939 to 1942 campaigns. Multiplayer is unfortunately not here yet, but that's coming! You can read the full changelog here.

Some very exciting news is the official announcement of Armored Brigade! Using a real-time engine and focused on the realism of mechanised warfare, the game explores a possible escalation of conflict between NATO and the WARSAW pact countries during the Cold War. The playable countries on release include the US, USSR, West and East Germany, UK, Finland and Poland -- already a damn nice setup, and bound to expand. Gameplay-wise, large terrains and weather play a tactical role, and the title spruces land tank battles up with air-to-air combat and artillery. You can read more about it here; it definitely sounds exciting!

Games Workshop on UK Games Expo 2017

For those lovers of Warhammer 40K out there - and I'm one of them - Games Workshop has confirmed their presence this year on UK Games Expo, in the 2nd - 4th of June. While not strictly a wargaming event, it does get some nice wargames around -- and the presence of Games Workshop means great news for 40K fans! If you're interested in attending or reading about the UK Games Exp, you can get do so here.

That’s all for this week’s update. It seemed to be a bit light on Wargaming news -- and it definitely doesn't help I don't have Joe's experience sourcing news on this specific genre -- but they were exciting, nonetheless! You all have a great weekend, and look out for next week's round-up!
