All three winners in 2003 are sequels to popular games in the past. While it wasn't much of a year for new wargaming franchises, existing lines aged like fine wine. Combat Mission: Afrika Korps completes the European trilogy, adding the Mediterranean theatre. Korsun Pocket is the long awaited sequel to the game many has called the best operational wargame ever: The Ardennes Offensive. Finally, Panther Games retooled last year's Red Devils over Arnhem game with fabulous results.

Among the rest, readers took notice of Freedom Game's Squad Assault: West Front; the spiritual successor to the popular Close Combat series. HPS Simulations' John Tiller released ten titles last year, with seven receiving votes. The "something for everyone" approach might sell a lot of games, but it can and did split the vote come awards time.
