Bernard Law Montgomery, Field Marshall, 1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein, KG, GCB, DSO, and so on, is undoubtedly best remembered for commanding the 8th Army in North Africa, Sicily and Italy and then commands in Europe for D-Day and beyond. However, he did not just spring into those commands out of the blue. He also saw action in Europe at the very start of the war, and here we look at his experiences in France leading up to Dunkirk.

So many space missions have launch issues, and Slitherine’s Buzz Aldrin’s Space Program Manager release on iPad was no exception. When initially submitted to Apple the game was rejected on the basis that it referred to a 3rd party – Buzz Aldrin – despite the fact that the said 3rd party had actively contributed to the development process. Weird. Ah, well, it has all been resolved and the iPad launch is well under way.

One of the best things about our hobby is a good game gives you the kind of perspective that you just can’t get from a history book or Ken Burns documentary. It’s when our beloved PC simulations provide an entirely new historical perspective that they really shine. And John Tiller’s Sicily ’43 just did that for me. Because, despite Mr. Churchill’s proclamation, in the end, the “soft underbelly” of Europe was hard as nails.

Initially released last year through Desura, and in January this year on Steam, War, the Game has been developed by Obbe Vermeij (who worked on the GTA franchise for Rockstar). We reviewed the game a couple of weeks ago and we also took the opportunity to catch up with Obbe for a quick interview.

In 2013 Matrix Games released Command Modern Air/Naval Operations, the successor to the near legendary Harpoon. You can read the review Jim Cobb did for us here. Since then the game, if you can really call such an in depth military simulation a game, has moved on to version 1.07, although we also carried a review of progress to v1.05 which can be read here.

The question, though, is: Will this game be yet another exercise in counting oil cans, weapon crates and C-rations, or will it meld logistic considerations with combat functions?
