Wargamer Weekly: The Best of the Rest09 Feb 2018 1
The scope of Wargamer Weekly’s are going to change over the next couple of weeks, for reasons which I hope we’ll be able to talk about soon. You’ll have noticed that this week’s content has been a bit more news-y – that will continue, and we’ll scale back up our regular larger features as well.
It’ll be a balancing act between posting about the really important news items and leaving enough to fill out our Friday update. For example, just before uploading this article we published a separate story on the new Field of Glory II DLC, something that could have easily gone in here (and almost did). We probably won’t get it completely right initially, but do let us know what you think.
Meanwhile, in the world of wargaming…
Slitherine & Matrix Games
Easily the most exciting news of the week, Gary Grigsby’s Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich has been updated to version 1.03. This is the first update in a long while, and you can read the full changelog here.
Check Your 6!, which was announced the other week, has published its first development diary highlighting the key differences between the table-top version and the new digital incarnation. To quote the full post:
"The upside of having a digital version was for us being able to avoid difficult calculations and having them being calculated and explained in a clear and understandable way, like this the payer can understand and check better the behind the scene impressive parameters and game rules."
Finally, Matrix are showing off some of the scenario briefings that will be included in their upcoming CMANO expansion, The Silent Service. Check them out!
Hearts of Iron IV Update
A couple of things to report on for HoI4 this week. The usual dev diary makes its appearance. Turns out Waking the Tiger has a lot more naval features in it than was originally planned, so they’ve posted a nice overview regarding what’s changing.
As well as the dev diary though, Paradox have pushed out a number of videos on the upcoming release that you might want to watch. We’ve embedded Part 1 below, but make sure to check out Part 2 & 3, as well as the separate video on what the free patch brings.
Wartile Leaves Early Access
We’ve told you about Wartile before – the real-time early access strategy/wargame was an attempt to innovate on the table-top miniature game using Vikings and a depressing atmosphere. It’s had several sizeable overhauls since we last played it, so I think it’s definitely earned a second look.
To celebrate the 1.0 release, the game is running at a 25% discount on Steam from now until February 15th.
That’s all for this week’s update – have a good weekend, and happy gaming! This article covers games developed and published by members of the Slitherine Group with which we share an affiliation.
