10-29-1999: Re-release of original Axis and Allies game

In rec.games.board the re-release of the original Axis and Allies game was mentioned. This re-release is not to be mixed up with the upcoming Axis and Allies - Europe game that will be released March/April/May 2000.

Axis & Allies will be re-released/re-designed under the Avalon Hill logo next summer/fall. The main changes are:

* A bigger gameboard
* Clarified rules/board space issues
* Slightly different piece colors
* A few rule adjustments to clear up things that always bothered Larry Harris

The Soviets have been made more powerful, although their main purpose is still to fend off the German onslaught. Can't really change the historical reality of that situation. They have a slightly higher piece count to start with and they have a unique ability now. On the Soviet turn, during non-combat movement, the Soviet player may take over any Allied land or air units that are in Soviet home territories. The Allied unit(s) is/are removed from the board and replaced with Soviet equivalents. The Soviet player may do this without permission of the Allies (although common sense dictates asking first). On the next turn, and for the rest of the game, these units are Soviet units and may attack on Russia's turn.

area based!!

Description:  Welcome to the world of Bells of War.   Bells of War is a game of military strategy centered upon the Second World War and is comprised of 3 levels of difficulty.   The first level consists of a relatively simple approach to Bells of War and should be mastered after a few matches.    The second level is much more complex.  It includes supplementary elements, such as 4 different types of infantry, 3 types of tanks a rule for convoys of the merchant marines, and ,in this way, a disappearance of submarines from the oceans.    And if for some strange reason, you decide you want to try the third level... Well, we would like to warn the maniacs of this type of game that they will find an arduous challenge.  There are extraordinarily complex parts to the third level which can last several days.

Box Contents:
1 color map
8 sets of pieces
2 combat boards
8 countries chart
4 twelve face dice
1 set of economic points
2 sets of plastic chips
1 game manual

Sushi Jalapeno War: this is a Fortress America clone. In the near future Japan and her small South American ally attack Mexico. The United States and her ally The Republic of Texas try to stop them.
The game is area based and 80 plastic playing pieces are included: hover tanks, APCs, infantry, helicopters, jet fighters and partisans. The playing pieces are the same as included in Fortress America. I hope to have a review on my page soon.
