That said I do look foward to this. I have heard many of those who were hard on RomeTW saying this is an improvement. And there is already talk of many mods to this to improve things even more.
I say give it a chance when you feel its the right price for you. I have to wait to upgrade my computer first (and I need to do that for many other games as well) so I will look forward to getting it in the near future.

Yes before it was patched RTW MP was buggy to the point of being unplayable.

There are improvements over the essential gameplay of RTW (such as tactical AI), but there is no comprehensive improvement, and most of it is cosmetic (confessedly beautiful). No amount of patches will quell my general uneasiness that I have paid for a supermodded RTW. It feels even less medieval than the first one, and continues to bore me to death watching sluggish campaign engine animations, pointless dynastic events and uninspired dialogue.
Those are my initial opinions, which are pretty close in line with my initial predictions. Besides, I bought it for the mods.

Now, maybe the option exists, but I haven't seen it and the manual is unclear. Being limited to just 5 factions, and not able to play some of the more interesting factions, is a huge hit to me.

I believe like Rome you have to play awhile to unlock other factions
Is also the option of editing to unlock more

That's just stupid. I've done mods, they're fun, but I'm not always in a tinkering mode. Give me my toy and get lost.

Irritating, yes. Just like SimBin's GT Legends. Excellent sim, daft console decision. Fortunately both can be got around.
The process for M2TW is set out here - very straightforward:

Why don't you just leave all us kiddies alone, we are obviously not as all knowing as yourself!

I agree. But we should bear in mind that the game is actually M[b]2[/b]TW, not MTW2. It's really Total War 1.5 rather than 2.0.

I agree that having unlockable factions is stupid, but it is very easily modded. Regardless, IIRC the final count of playable factions is 17 out of 21 total.
I'm glad my character uses a shield because I may be taking a bashing here soon.

I've found MTWII enjoyable, way better the RTW. And so far its proven more moddable, but until we get the unapacker all we can do is edit campaign settings.

Thanks

Good, now the modders can bring back Aragon... maybe even split Castile and Leon. I love early Spain. Going there next week. Maybe they can add the Cilician Armenians, Georgia, Bohemia and Burgundy split-off factions, Florence, Croatia, Serbia, the Outremer crusader states, Teuton/Knights of the Livonian Order, etc. etc. []

You magnificent bastard...why even bother with the game until you get back, then? Nothing can compare to the real thing.
My wife spent 3 months in Barcelona before I knew her and almost didn't return []

[] Yep... Madrid only though. My fiancee said she might take me to Avila though. She lived there for two years, and the Canary Islands for two more.
She leaves on Wednesday. I leave on Saturday. So that means I have three days of M2TW marathon playing... though I'll probably get a little bored before then. It feels too much like RTW right now. Just not very 'new' feeling.

Just unlock 'em. Here's how:
Specifically, to unlock, do this:
- Locate the following file: descr_strat.txt file
- The file is usually located in:
C:\Program Files\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign
- First, make a backup copy of the file, just in case.
- Second, change the file so that it is not read-only. Right click on the file, choose properties and untick "read-only". Then, edit the file using a text editor.
- Delete lines number 10 and 11, ie: Code:
end
unlockabe
- Save and you are all set.
