OK, at least now the movies that are winning to vote for I've actually seen. So, I cast my votes as I could actually do that this time. Were getting down to some really good movies. Will be interesting to see which one comes out on top. [sm=00000924.gif]

If there ever was a reason for the saying that there's no acccounting for taste, that movie list is proof positive. When Kelly's Heroes can appear on a list of best war movies of all time, something is REALLY wrong somewhere.

Agreed. That makes the list but Breaker Morant doesn't?! [&
Edit - No offense meant to Mr. Amos for the concept.

Well, i think this has more to do with the thread being mistitled. Instead of 'the best war movie of all time' it should be titled 'the most popular war movie of all time.'

That makes more sense. Kelly's seems to have a devoted fan following and is certainly popular, but even in that respect I just don't get it. To each his own, I suppose. I'd put From Here to Eternity and Bataan on that best list, to be sure. Eternity for its acting, story and focus on the soldier, and Bataan because you can't top the well-executed to the last man standing plotline for cranking up the tension. And the black and white just adds to the grimness and starkness of it all.

Polls can be fun, but I don't think this one is going to turn out to be too valid. A lot of people of voting when they haven't even seen both movies in a matchup. How about the guy who said he only saw 5 minutes of 12 O'Clock High so he was voting for the other movie? What the? Come on, people!

Current results Saving Private Ryan (12) 57% Zulu (9) 43% As for the debate on why some movies are in and some arent are three things I need to state. One is that almost a year ago I tried to do this movie thing and it fell apart due to the fact I couldnt find a poll site that would let people vote without asking them to register. I finally found one. At that time a year ago we had a vote on what movies should make the 64. Many of those mentioned that are on here did make the vote list but were outvoted. Second I asked at that time if SCI Fi or Fantasy films should be included also in a poll. That was equally defeated. And thirdly I wanted to have a few obsure films not seen by many on the list. This voting is actually a sort of way for war movie enthusiasts to let others know about a good movie that they might not have seen. What I would like to do is list about 100 war movies. Then let the voters rate them. Thing I will work on that next. Will enclude all war genres. Will have to wait and see.

Others are The Long and the Short and the Tall, Home of the Brave, Hell to Eternity, Best Years of our Lives, The Purple Heart, and some I'm sure I'll recall after I finish. Wing and a Prayer, too.

Came up with the idea of putting some of the lesser know war movies on the net to veiw. Im working on improving the quality so this first attempt isnt so good. Hope to fix this with a better version of this movie So go here to watch 1970's "Waterloo" staring Rod Steiger and Christopher Plummer. http://www.dailymotion.com/Willanon/video/xtuc0_wasserloo

Agree with previous poster on the honourary inclusion of "Band of Brothers". Probably the best and most complete war drama I've ever seen. The fact it's about 99% completely true and accurate based on actual accounts... I say 99% as the drama uses some license, and somewhat draws a romantic conclusion about Ronald Speirs alleged shooting of prisoners etc. for the record I love Kellys Heroes, it's actually very accurate in terms of detail, and production unlike Battle of the Bulge which had American tanks from the Korean War as King Tigers and focussed on a miniscule aspect of the battle. I hate that film! No offence but the poll here seems to be more "name any war film, film with a warlike context or film with a battle scene in it and rate it".

Stopped voting when i realised that a crappy movie like Black Hawk down had massive support. Another crappy movie (one of the crappiest) Enemy at The gates has more support than Apocalypse Now, the poll is simply silly. Or this Forum´s movietaste is atleast. Horrible.

Some background on our first movie. 1943's movie Sahara was one of the few Holliwood movies made furing WWII about WWII. So it is rare in that case. It Stars Humphrey Bogart and Dan Dureya. Will also see an appearence by a young Lloyd Bridges. It follows an American Tank Crew in the battles of North Africa during Rommels push to Egypt. This picture got a best supporting actors nomination for the role played by the Italian POW in this movie. What I want is ratings from people after they download. These rating are... OVERALL (How do you overall rate the movie on a scale of 1 to 10 ?) CAST (How good is tthe Cast for the movie) REALISM (how realistic is the movie in what it portraits ?) HISTORICAL ACCURACY (how accurate is the movie to actual history ?) BATTLES (how good is the battles in the movie ?) MUSIC/SOUND (How good is the Sound or music in the movie ?)
