Status : Online | Hey -- I just want to say thanks so much for posting the links to my website and my pics! I'm Chauncey. I found this forum because someone here visited my website via the link this post, and that someone lives in Denver. I'm originally from Denver so was interested in who that might be.
I'm also quite interested in seeing someone from Nottingham in the F&I War!

Hi Pvt. Chauncey,
Yup, I’m from England. I only recently discovered the FIW when I bought AGEOD’s Birth of America. I don’t think many people in the UK know much about the conflict - apart from military history buffs.
I should have posted a link to the index page of your excellent site ([link=http://reenacting.net/sfmlh.html]here[/link]). Sorry.
P.S. The links from your website are good too.

Status : Online | Hey - I recently got contacted by someone in the UK who wants to join a Rogers Rangers unit, but to my knowledge there isn't one, and I suggested he start one himself (I'ld be willing to offer my unit's help). I wonder if there are more of you who might be interested in joining him...???

Hi Pvt. Chauncey,
I don’t think that there are any Rangers re-enactors in the UK. However, I know someone who is an expert on re-enacting in this country – who also has a special interest in 18th Century re-enacting. He may be able to help the Brit who has contacted you regarding re-enactment. I’m pretty sure that he’d like to make your acquaintance as well. I’ll find his contact details and e-mail them to you.
BTW, this forum is an international forum. It is used by ‘wargamers’ all over the world - and not just by us Brits.

Status : Online | Hi again,
I would be very interested in, er, "meeting" your contact. I've had more than one person from the UK contact me for assistance. I'm also the point of contact for my unit's website (http://rogersrangers.org).
I'm seeing just how international this site is. Someone from Down Under pinged my site today from your posts!! It's not like Big Brother -- I don't know "who" is visiting my site, only where they reside, where they linked from, and where they link out.
Not long ago, I had an email from a Ranger reenacting unit in the Czech Republic, my response was posted on their chat board, someone translated it into Czech, someone posted a question which I got emailed, my response went onto their board... It's really wonderful to see!!! They had a picture of themselves and they looked good. It turns out, Tim Todish was advising them.[]
By the way, I'm always VERY open to input from anyone who visits my site for comments on what they might want to see. I get bored with it and could use some inspiration on what to add. That said, I'm working on the Lake George Tactical report this Friday evening...
YH&OS,
Chauncey

Status : Online | Oh yeah, there are a lot of real Native Americans reenacting Native Americas -- mostly they are on the French side but I know one who reenacts Cheeksaunkun on the Mohican side for the Brits. Quite a number of "white" people reenact the Natives and thankfully, they usually do really good research. (250 years ago, the Native population had a LOT of white people in their tribes. They captured whites as a way to replace their dead, and interestingly as the more whites they captured, the less susceptible they became to white diseases like small pox.) Anyway, we couldn't do this hobby without the Natives!!!

A few years ago we saw Legio II Augusta at an old Villa site near Salisbury - they were really good and very interesting. I plan to take the kids to some re-enactments when they are older - probably Sealed Knot or the ECW Society as they are quite active in the South of England.[]

Chauncey.
As you have probably guessed my ‘moniker’ comes from my re-enacting days. I used to be a pikeman in an English Civil War re-enactment group. The distinctive feature of my uniform was a sturdy red jacket.

Status : Online | I would love to see some a good Roman event in the UK somewhere. I don't think there is a single one in the US.
Reenactments are a great place to take kids. I've heard them described as "edutainment" and I think that's a good way to put it. For those of us who do it, it is "Living History" but for the public, we hope they learn something about the battles, the ways people live, etc.
The F&I is my favorite because it's so much more pivotal to US (and in some ways world) history than people realize! And of course we are doing the 250th of all the major battles these few years. This summer is the 250th of the seige at Fort William Henry of Last of the Mohicans fame!! Should be a doozy!!

And on these reenactment units int he u.s,where maybe they have the most?,it must be the civil war that has the most maybe you would think, then maybe WW2,and i wonder if any of the guys in the pictures where in movies or tv shows where these soldiers are used, like last of the mohicans etc..[]

Will you be attending the Grand Encampment III this year?
I will be there with Brigade Levis. A US French unit.

Yup, Crown point. I am part of Regiment de La Reine a French white coat/red cuffs unit. We are based in the midwest. Our leader's name is Protz.
Since we don't get out east all that much, (I'm in Chicago) we might not have crossed paths. I have been to Niagara a number of times for their annual event though. Niagara is generally great.

Status : Online | Good day,
I lost the link to reply to you but a kind soul sent it to me. I know the name of Bill Protz. I'm on some of the distributions about this event. I know Mike Mileki backed out of being overall organizer for the French and I know there is no overall organizer from the British. In fact, there is no chat at all amongst the Brits. This event is going to have some very serious issues, not only with location but organization.
Oddly, I've never made it to Niagara! I've heard for so many years about how gorgeous the site is but the event always comes on the heals of Ticonderoga and right before something else, which makes the all-day-drives a problem. I am absolutely going to be there for the 250th though, along with all the other 250 events I can get my hands on. I'm webmaster for Quebec '09 and we are already on the planning for that, the Battle of the Plains of Abraham! It will be spectacular.
The 250th for Fort William Henry is looking really good -- busy, and NOISY with seige cannos going off all day and into the evening (with fireworks). They town is acquiring adjacent property that will allow us to dig real trenches for the French (that would be you!) so we can -- for the first time I've ever heard of -- have real "seige" tactical in terms of seige offense and defense. Plus Sunday will have the massacre. It really is all-hands-on-deck for the French for this one!! Hope you guys can make it!

I'm in Illinois so I have to pick and choose my NY state events.
Bill is our group's leader and I know Mike Milecki as well as I fall in with them every now and then.

Seige canons will be firing regularly including Saturday night with fireworks. The seige will also include demonstrations on offensive and defensive tactics. And there will be the battels as normal, parleys, and Sunday -- the massacre after Munro gives up the fort!! It should be a FANTASTIC weekend. I hope you guys can make it!!
