Hey guys just wanted to ask you what you thought of CC:MT. I love the game, so I don't meet to whine but here are some personal observations: A. The Good: 1. Big improvement over CC:Marines. Stable on XP, and has good single player missions. Haven't played multiplayer yet but I think it would be awesome. 2. Units - super cool- Strykers!! 3. All the CC goodness wrapped up into a modern package. B. Personal quirks: 1. Mortars are a bit too over powering. Yes I know if you saturate an area you should be able to hit a target, but it's a bit annoying to have your m113 hit from across the map on the first barrage. What confuses me is that the on call "battalion mortars" are not accurate at all - shouldn't they at least be as accurate as the mortars on the map? 2. Victory locations: had several cases where the enemy was routed and surrendered, but it said I lost because the enemy controlled more victory locations. Perhaps victory locations are too heavily weighted in the victory calculation. 3. Are the infantry units a bit slow to you? I swear my units are faster in CC:IC. Maybe just my comp - the vehicles are super fast though. It's like my guys never passed the APFT! 4. Some of the buildings are weird - I know you should be able to shoot out windows, but even when there are some windows, some buildings don't allow this. Some don't register as having an interior. Also sometimes I want all my guys on one side of a building to give max firepower out of that side, but then half of them get stuck in the toliet without any windows and are combat ineffective. 5. Pathfinding - I'm actually happy with the vehicle pathfinding - it's the infantry pathfinding that's annoying - it takes forever for them to cross the street, let along to get them out of a building. C: Wanted: 1. UAVs - I know, I know too much like bf2 - but hear me out - the game title is "modern tactics" and on today's battlefield UAVs are a fact. UAVs could perhaps see troops in the open, but not in buildings. 2. Helicopters. Yes perhaps I'm whining too much, but helos would add a whole new element to CC. Might take until CC:10 to get !

Good stuff, Yute. this is one of the games I'm 'keeping an eye on' right now, before I take the plunge, so any information/opinion I can get is much appreciated. Just one note...wouldn't the maps in the game be a little small for use of helos?

Helos are there but they are in the same category as off-map arty and air strike. I guess you want an on-map helo which can hover and ferry troops.

With air support. You can call it in on a target... after a short wait it sweeps in discorging death and destruction in the specified area and then flies off to it's next mission. They don't hang about on the screen and can't be continually re-directed by the player.

I am very interested in this game-but one note to any Matrix Games Personnel who may read this-I WILL NOT buy this game, or any other for that matter, if I cannot get a physical copy. PC download is good but I want my physical copy and package. I have kept every game box I have ever bought for nostalgiic reasons.

I don't know why you find this an issue with Matrix, I have bought quite a few Matrix games using the download AND physical shipment option - no problems...[

ALCON, I wrote that message about physical copy after the game had been out for about two weeks with no physical copy option. I was geting worried that Matrix wasn't going to release a physical copy option. I wrote it in an effort to persuade Matrix to release the physical copy option. It may have been a bit pre-mature to post that comment but I was eager to buy the game and wanted my physical copy. I have noticed a trend with some online vendors that they don't offer a physical copy option in conjuncture with download. It is usually download alone or physical copy but not both. I think Matrix Games has their Sh%$ straight. The major draw back to online purchasing of any item is no instant gratification-you have to wait for the item to arrive inthe mail. Matrix's dual offering of download and physical copy is marketing Gold. Keep up the good work Matrix.

Thanks - FYI all our games have the physical copy option and we've decided that in 2008 we won't be launching a game until all options are ready so that we don't have the situation where the physical lags the download any longer.

After the big patch for CCMT came out and seeing that all the things left out at release are now included (USMC M1A1 tanks, Bradley AFVs, Cobras, etc.), I finally took the plunge and bought a copy.  I have been a CC fan since day one, waaaay back when the first game in the series came out.  These are still some of the best games I own as far as small tactical wargames are concerned, and CCMT only improves by bringing the game into the modern era.  It still has the same great gameplay and the UI should be famliar to anyone who has played any CC game before.    Of course, the modern battlefield is even deadlier than a WWII battlefield, so expect lots o casualties, both in men and vehicles, if you don't make good decisions.  As always, if your men see you making bad decisions, they are much less likely to follow your orders, leaving you exasperated and probably on the losing end of the fight.   Have not played MP as yet, but hope to do so sometime soon.

Just got Modern Tactics after hearing about it being played at Origins. I loved the entire CC series (particularly A Bridge Too Far and Normandy) so I am delighted to see this modern version. I like the fact that the scenarios span a good variety of locales, OPFOR, and terrain types. I have been unable to find the option that would let me see where victory locations are on the map. I have no clue where they are and they aren't displayed when I play. Since game outcomes are so heavily weighted on victory locations this puts a big damper on effectiveness. I'd like to see an option where the scenario didn't end based a timer expiration. I like to play scenarios (any game) without worrying about the clock. All the clock does is make you play carelessly and is a weak way to create scenarios. This game seems to be a collection of totally unrelated scenarios so you can't build a force and continue it through from one scenario to the next in a campaign construct. That was the whole point of having the post-game screens that showed which soldiers got kills, who got decorations, how much experience and morale went up, etc. When you are grooming troops and building up your unit, you will play differently than with totally expendable nobodies. Other than that, it's nice to see a new CC game out. I've missed playing them even though I am extremely OD'd on WWII.

CCMT is a commercial release of Close Combat Marines a military trainer. The marines didn't want a campaign included. You can download the Expansion/Patch and further add ons here  http://closecombat.matrixgames.com/ccmt/ccmt.html BUT    The 28 maps included now are loosely strung together with a narrative.            Story Line        There is a rebellion in a ficticious Country (African maybe given the varying terrain), which is supported by outside interests.     Two clans Montanyans and Centralians , equipped mostly with Russian armaments, have joined forces to overthrow the US equipped United Forces ( The Ruling Junta).     Dissaffected sections of the United Forces military lend support to the rebels... giving US equipped vs US equipped action.         The Montanyans take a mauling and turn on the Centralians - Russian on Russian armaments.            Centralians come out on top, they re establish their relation ship and again battle the US equipped United Force.     The United Forces slowly push the Rebels out of the urban areas and into the remote, oil rich, desert leading to their stronghold at Ghazwah.

Downloading the patch now. Looking forward to knowing where the hell the victory locations are, since outcomes are predicated on them. The new toys also will be cool to have. I was less concerned about continuity of a story line and more interested in having forces from one scenario roll over to the next scenario; this permits some leadership development and combat experience to make gameplay even more realistic and intriguing. As a military educator myself for decades I am aware of what goes and what doesn't in the military classroom. John Tiller's Modern Air Power game has benefitted significantly from its association with Maxwell--very few unfortunate concessions to what the military wanted there.

Hi I hear that there is a patch that adds British forces to the mix.  Is this true and if so how do people like that option? Thanks Craig

Hey!  I've been up to quite a bit of trouble at Maxwell--John Tiller's Modern Air Power (USAF version called Theater Airpower Visualization or TAV) is entering its third year and over 15,000+ Second Lieutenants have played it.  For the first two years we played one exercise (AIRGAP) but last year we added a second exercise (AFEX) which really helped accelerate learning of basic USAF doctrinal concepts.  Last year we also developed a new Expeditionary Airbase Simulation game with BreakAway Ltd. and hopefully we'll be introducing that simulation in August.  EAS is a cooperative multiplayer game resembling a citybuilder but the students are actually building up an expeditionary airbase and generating combat sorties once the base is ready to fight.  VERY cool and lots of fun to play.  Looks like you aren't too far from Tallil, which was the base used for inspiration to develop the game.

I remember you talking about the simulation several years ago.  It sounds like a lot of fun and I remember you likening the project to Starcraft.  We get a lot of supplies out of Talil but I've never been there.  It looks like I will be confined to the FOB.  Nothing can alter a perspective like living in the same 1x1 mile square area of sand, t-barriers, and noisy generators.  Good to hear from you again. Who here even beat the first mission? The one where you get 10 minutes or so to wipe out the enemy.
