I have Harpoon ANW and have not the slightest clue as what to download and in what order.

It has an installer along with every file made for the PlayersDB and ANW. We set up the libraries so that folks don't need to load scenarios one at at time.
One click to DL.
One click to Install
And you are done.

By the 20th of May, there were strong indications that invasion was imminent. Destroyers had shelled Argentine coastal garrisons and rumours were rampant that SAS troops were on the ground. During the night, an Argentine freighter was shelled by an unknown British warship in Falkland Sound.
By daybreak, Argentinean observation posts saw the amphibious force steam into San Carlos waters.

Tried installing this with no success.
After downloading the installer for both the Players DB and the complete library, to what folder do I install them? Installing them to my Harpoon install corrupted the Matrix install.
Should the PlayersDB and complete library be used with the version 3.8 patch?
Thanks

Here is the corrected link:

During the night of May 14th, 1982; SAS commandoes intended to attack the airfield on Pebble Island. The raid was to be carried out via helicopter from HMS Hermes, which had detached from the CVBG during the night to steam towards Pebble Island with a small escort.
While the force was still 6 hours away from their attack, American SIGINT was received which indicated that the Argentinean aircraft carrier Veinticinco de Mayo had evaded British submarines and entered the 200nm exclusion zone.
A unique carrier battle was now brewing....

Harpoon 3.6.3 is the version of Harpoon3 that came before the release of Harpoon ANW. Many folks still play it, so we issue a scenario/database Library collection for those players unwilling to purchase ANW.

The Cold War finally went hot and furious as battles arose around the world. This scenario deals with a final U.S. multi-carrier attack supported by Japanese forces in the Western Pacific. The U.S. forces have neutralized all but one of the Soviet fortresses in the theatre. Now it is time to finish the job.
This scenario was originally written by Ralf Koelbach for Harpoon Classic Commanders Edition and has been re-made for Harpoon3 and the PlayersDB with the consent of the author.
But beware, the Soviets have reinforced their last bastion to the utmost.

Congratulations to Bart Gauvin for posting up his very first Harpoon scenario for everyone to enjoy. "Gunner98" is the 17th author to release a new scenario.
Feb 14th 1994, Valentines Day. Less than 24 hours ago, Soviet forces struck all across Eastern Europe in a drive to seize the initiative and establish themselves as the dominant force in Europe once and for all.
NATO, and particularly the Americans are not well positioned to challenge this sudden attack. There are two US CVBGs in the Persian Gulf area and a third transiting the Indian Ocean and a fourth patrolling near Korea. The KITTY HAWK CVBG is in the Med but expected to be heavily engaged there. The INDEPENDENCE and ABRAHAM LINCOLN CVBGs currently in Norfolk, Virginia are expected to sortie very shortly.
The defences in Northern Norway were caught off guard, and much of the Soviet Fleet has left port. Russian submarine activity is very high, upwards of 100 submarines have been detected by SOSUS and the standing SSN patrols off the North Cape of Norway have been silenced.
The lonely outpost of Jan Mayan, a small Norwegian island North East of Iceland, has rapidly become a pivotal point. Completely surrounded by Ice Pack, the few inhabitants of this forlorn outpost are realizing that both NATO and the Soviests are willing to brave the -50C temperatures and bone chilling winds to hold their remote piece of the earth. While NATO air and ground forces scramble to establish and outpost, rumours of Russians appearing 'out of no where' abound throughout the village.

After the surprise Argentine invasion of the Falklands Islands, the British Defence ministry urgently ordered available Royal Navy units to the area.
A mixed destroyer/frigate squadron with attached support ships had just finished operation Springtrain around Gibraltar. On April 16th, this group was the first to enter the waters around the Falklands.
Argentina, meanwhile, was using her navy to reinforce the garrison in the Malvinas and to establish a blocking force for any early British units.

On June 8 1982, one of the most tragic events of the Falklands war took place. Two amphibious ships embarked with the Welsh Guards were taking too long to unload at Bluff Cove and, when daylight broke, were found and bombed by the Argentine air force with heavy loss of life.
Later investigations speak of inter-service rivalry between the British forces, and of a blatant disregard of the basic principles of amphibious operations.

East Timor is an old Portuguese colony which was annexed by Indonesia in 1975. In August 1999, the citizenry overwhelmingly voted for independence, and, almost immediately afterwards, Indonesian-backed militia became active. By September, 250.000 people had fled the killings.
In September, President Habibi of Indonesia finally agreed to the deployment of a multinational UN-peacekeeping force in East Timor so long as it was primarily Asian troops.
While US, New Zealand, Italian, Singapore, Malaysian, and Norwegian troops began the long preparations for deployment, Australia was ready and an amphibious convoy put to sea. Indonesia objected strongly to this breach of the agreement.

Barkhorn1xCenturion![]() Posts : 513 Joined: 1 OCT 2003 Status : Offline | OK - even after reading this thread I am totally mystified by all the Harpoon versions. So...:
- What is Harpoon3 exactly and how does it relate to the Matrix version and version 3.6.3 and the ANW version?
- Is there a site or a Wiki that would have additional information?
- If I were to purchase, which one would I get, the Matrix version?
- How about graphics - is it all pretty much AEGIS/NTDS screens based? Or are there actual explosions via cut scenes or some such? ***
- What else do I need to know?
Thanks.
***Yea, I know, focusing on graphics at the expens of gameplay is....blah, blah, blah.... [:'(] It's 2008, can't we have both? [b][image]http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k286/Barkhorn1x_2006/sign3e.jpg[/image]

(As far back as the 80's [Red Storm Rising era] I hope). [b][image]http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k286/Barkhorn1x_2006/sign3e.jpg[/image]

ORIGINAL: Beastttt does the ANW version work for the harpoon 97 by I-magic?Harpoon ANW is derived from the Harpoon 2 line of the game. Harpoon97 by Imagic is a version Harpoon Classic branch of the game. The Harpoon Classic and Harpoon 2 versions are incompatible with one another. (Like playing squash and racquetball. Both very similar, but fundamentally incompatible) You can check out the history: http://www.computerharpoon.com/wiki/main/index.php?title=Harpoon_4.1

(As far back as the 80's [Red Storm Rising era] I hope).Harpoon 3 (specificially v3.6.3) is the (pre-Matrix) version of Harpoon 3 [H3]. Harpoon3:ANW is the version released by Matrix. Both versions use the same basic interface, but ANW adds a few more functions and Multi-player capability. Due to recent changes in the latest ANW 3.9.0 patch release, scenarios made for H3 will no longer run properly in ANW. Before 390 was released, you could play any of the old H3 scenarios in ANW. That is no longer possible. You can check out the developer's wiki site for general information: http://www.computerharpoon.com/wiki/main/index.php?title=Main_Page and history of the game: http://www.computerharpoon.com/wiki/main/index.php?title=Harpoon_4.1 Be forewarned, there are claims made that are false and wholly unsubstantiated. Only the ANW version from Matrix is commercially available. You might find a copy of H3 on eBay, but nowhere else. The graphics are pretty much organized around the tactical plot (radar/AEgis screen). Grainy video animations of planes launching, missiles firing, planes shot down, etc., are included, but they are very limited and not always that visually appealing, IMO. The latest ANW patch has included a number of images, but they are pretty much superfluous to gameplay. They allow you to see a picture of the various planes, ships, and submarines, but it's like looking at a book. A demo for ANW is available: ftp://ftp.matrixgames.com/pub/Harpoon3ANW/Harpoon_3_Gouge_Demo_1.exe The demo says that it expires May 1, 2008 and that it has already expired. (Yeah, that kind of quality is prevalent throughout). Just turn back your system clock a month or so before starting up the demo. You should be fine. Some of the old H3 scenarios ran back as far as WWII. However, none of these have been made functional for the latest ANW version. Many of the scenarios focus on 1980 - present, but there are plenty from earlier eras, too.

Barkhorn1xCenturion![]() Posts : 513 Joined: 1 OCT 2003 Status : Offline | Thanks for the detailed info. A couple of other questions if I may:
- What sites do the Harpoon heads (bad pun [:-]) hang out on?
- Went to the Matrix site - and found two versions:
* HARPOON 3 - ADVANCED NAVAL WARFARE
* LARRY BOND'S HARPOON - COMMANDER'S EDITION
...so what the heck is the difference? Are they mutually exclusive - or do they overlap somehow?
Thanks. [b][image]http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k286/Barkhorn1x_2006/sign3e.jpg[/image]

Are they mutually exclusive - or do they overlap somehow? Here are some of the most common Harpoon hangouts (in order of activity, IMO): Wargamer has some very helpful players (and a few real naval veterans). http://www.gamesquad.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=186 http://harpgamer.com/harpforum/index.php?act=idx http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/FilesOfScenShare/ http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/forumdisplay.php?f=173 http://www.simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=postlist&Board=107&page=1 There are significant differences between Harpoon Classic and ANW versions of the game. It might be comparable to two sports like racquetball/squash or American football/Canadian football. Both games have the same basic concept (naval warfare), but they implement it in different ways. They are mutually exclusive (possession of one will not allow you to play the other). There was some very good discussion of the versions just last week: [link=http://www.wargamer.com/forums/tm.asp?m=280465]Which is best - Harpoon CE or ANW?[/link] [link=http://www.wargamer.com/forums/tm.asp?m=268018&mpage=1&key=%F1%81%9B%B2]The Harpoon Series and the Non-Grog[/link] Demos for both types of computer Harpoon are available.

Barkhorn1xCenturion![]() Posts : 513 Joined: 1 OCT 2003 Status : Offline | Thanks forthe info. Looks to me like I would enjoy the CEversion more. Can you use the NTDS symbology with that version? All the AARs I see (are they by you BTW?) all seem to use the "little plane and ship" symbols and I just don't like them.
I am d/l'ing the ANW demo tho' to see how that works.
Thanks again.
