Zimbabwe has reached the low on inflation seen by the Weimar Republic in Germany prior to the takeover by the Nazis. According to the International Monetary Fund the inflation rate is now 150,000 percent. From the Washington Post: "By some estimates, about 50 percent of Zimbabwe's government revenue comes from the printing of money. At independence in 1980, the Zimbabwean dollar was worth more than one U.S. dollar. Recently, the state-controlled newspaper raised its cover price to 3 million Zimbabwean dollars. Two pounds of chicken were recently reported to cost about 15 million Zimbabwean dollars." Difficult to comprehend how bad life is in Zimbabwe under Mugabe.

What do you mean bad?! They've thrown off the oppressive yoke of colonialism! They are a self-determining democratic body capable of guiding their own futures without the parentalist oversight of the "man"! How can it be "bad" to make your own decisions without being dictated to by a minority non-native government? [:-] Surely you've confused this nation with someone else.... [sm=00000622.gif]

I guess this is one way to control a populace, make it so they cannot afford to buy a newspaper, you don't have to worry about what is printed then.

Well everything's relative. Just think how bad things were when Zimbabwe was Rhodesia during Ian Smith's ministry?[8|] Mugabe was then hailed by the West as a Freedon Fighter against Apartheid. It now seems Mugade has not only learnt to love his version of Apartheid, but couldn't run a piss-up in a brewery, let alone a country.[

Folks, this is where the term "hard currency" gets its name.    When the average joe in this situation gets some cash, he will literally sprint to the bank to exchange it for Dollars, Euros, or Yen so that his local currency doesn't fall any further.   Besides, all of you "sky is falling" people need to look at this for what Mugabe has done for his people:  Virtually all of them are millionaires!  What's so bad about that?  When is the last time YOUR government managed to pull off that kind of economic miracle?   [sm=koolade.gif]

In that light. It should be said that a Mugabe Lead Zimbabwe, until he completly turned around. For a number of years before that, the country was considered the breadbasket of the southern Africa and a model example for other african countries. Ofc in those years he let ppl do what they did good and didnt take a more personal "hands on approche" to things. Kind regards, Rasmus

Actually a high Euro is good news - US goods are cheap meaning exports will increase, which is good for the economy. C'mon over for a summer vacation and spend your Euros freely! We'll both benefit [

Matthew 25:14-30.  Jesus tells that it is not sufficient merely to maintain things as they are.  Those who await should make good use of the gifts that God has provided them.
