Hia Guys, If any of you have any useful tips etc, post to this thread. This is a quick howto for poting images on the forum. NOTE:[B]The forum is not a general upload facility - The images uploaded are for use in this forum - This is a useful feature, please don't abuse it or it will be turned off[/B] Ok, click new thread as per a normal post and you will see the screen as in Fig1 below: [IMG]http://www.militarygameronline.com/ForumImages/Forum1.jpg[/IMG] [COLOR=red]Fig1[/COLOR] Below this you will see a text box with the words "browse" as in Fig2 Browse to the image on your Hard Drive. Please use jpegs, (jpg) or gif and NOT BMP image format, otherwise the image upload WILL fail. [IMG]http://www.militarygameronline.com/ForumImages/Forum2.jpg[/IMG] [COLOR=red]Fig2[/COLOR] After clicking on the browse button, you will see a screen pretty similiar to the one in Fig3 just browse to the image you want to upload, highlight it and click open. [IMG]http://www.militarygameronline.com/ForumImages/Forums3.jpg[/IMG] [COLOR=red]Fig3[/COLOR] After that you will see a screen like the one below Fig4: [IMG]http://www.militarygameronline.com/ForumImages/Forum4.jpg[/IMG] [COLOR=red]Fig4[/COLOR] Thats all there is to it, then just click on the submit new thread and your image will be posted to the thread. Shaun

Why does this topic keep disapearing, to be replaced by the one about the Okinawa Mod files being removed, then when I come back, it's this one about images again. And if I go look at something else and come back here, the date of the last topic will be April 04, and everything after that has disapeared. If I close out this window and come back another time, all the topics posted since April 4 will be visable again, but the date of the last post on the screen that lists all the forums will be April 04. If you think thats confusing, it is. Maybe I'm having acid flashbacks or something. But the short version is all the dates and topics get switched around everytime I come here. What's going on?

Shaun (or anyone else) How about when posting several pictures in one thread? As in an AAR with text near each one. Something similar to what you've done to start this thread. I'm sure it's obvious but when it comes to computers the obvious usually escapes me.

Try this link sando: [url]http://www.militarygameronline.com/forums/misc.php?s=&action=bbcode[/url] you will also need to upload the images captured using say UOSU to a web site that will allow images to be displayed.

OK got it. One picture at a time from C Drive. I thought there might be a secret way to put more than one in a post.

The 'secret' way would be to have the ftp logon. The not so secret way involves making multiple posts to the same thread, uploading one pic per, then click the edit icon and checkoff 'Delete this post'. Bet a shortbread cookie the pics dont get deleted with the post. Uploaded pix would then have the url format [minus the space after www]- www .militarygameronline.com/ForumImages/picturename.jpg Then make a new post and manually enclose the appropriate image url [per above, minus space] with the image tags [img] & ['slash' img] (where 'slash'=/) at the points in your text you want the images to appear. Image file extension [.jpg, .GIF etc] is case sensitive. Always good etiquette to crop, resize and compress images to a bandwidth friendly file size. Nothing says "Newby on the loose" like a modem choking 1024x768 24bit .bmp

Clever. I am sure that you computer guys will be able to make good use of that method but to a computer numbskull, such as myself, it's more or less mumbo jumbo. I've got the [img] etc... method down so I'll just stick with that.

AH HA Mr. Wallace, I recognize Windows XP when I see it!! How do you like it? It’s a pretty fun OS isn’t it? You should see the screen saver with XP Plus. Hey I thought you were a Unix/Linux guy?

I notice recently the "browse" is not there under "your reply". Only Options and rate this thread.

Hia mate, The images were killing the forum, they were too much for the forum DB to cope with. Some of the image files uploaded were so massive, if the forums had been backed up or other admin functions perfomed while one of them was being uploaded it could have crashed the entire forum DB. So we had to turn the feature off. Shaun

is there a way to limit the allowed size of uploaded pics and then clear that directory every month. Particularly in video games and game modding, screenshots and progress shots are of paramount importance. When you also take into account that modern military history relies a lot on the photograph you can do nothing but agree that pictures are necessary. I think limiting the size to 30 to 50 kb into a special directory and then clearing hat directory every month would work well.

Hia mate, I will check out what we can do on the forum, re limiting the size and maybe specifying a directory that could be cleaned every month. I will get back to you
