Status : Offline | Was Starship Troopers 2 'straight-to-DVD' ? I don't recall seeing anything about it while I probably watched
the first one four or five times. Should I rent #2 at all?
Wit Ye further, or how...?

They didn't even offer alternatives, just said it was so awful they didn't ever want to see anyone actually spend money on it.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that #3 is at least marginal...

Staggerwing, Whatever you do, do NOT rent ST2. Do not watch it on SciFi channel. If you see it on TV by accident, avert your eyes immediately, run to the bathroom and rinse them out with cool water for 5 minutes. Just pretend it doesn't exist and go straight to ST3.

Is that really a selling point? [:'(]

Sorry, but no Denise Richards. There will be Jolene Blalock though.
And to Artic Blast, If you saw the guy who played the lead in ST2, you wouldn't be turning your nose up at Casper van Dien. He made Van Dien look like Lawrence freakin' Olivier. I kid you not. [sm=00000289.gif]

SST2 had godawful actor as Lt. Dill, just seeing him makes you want to turn TV off. As a character/leader you'd transfer to Capt Sobel, even Lt Dike was an upgrade, and be thankful.
SST2 had gratuitous nudity, and a twisted end that made watching it partially redeem itself.
In SST2 over 2 dozen troops are seen reaching the base (quite visible in trailer) yet they all disappeared after arrival. Interestingly the lack of numbers is the one factor hampering the troops (yet it shouldn't be an issue). The plot has been done so many times before it isn't funny, no thought went into it at all.
The Cast:
The Sarge was Brenda Strong the Ship's captain of Rodger Young in 1st movie.
Capt Dax was Richard Burgi the corrupt cop in FIREFLY's The Message episode, currently a recurring character on Desperate Housewives.
Gen. Shepard was Ed Lauter an actor never short of work even if lacking in fame.

The truly sick thing is, as a lover of horrible movies, that's actually somewhat of a selling point, mscano. []

Someone could beat you in the face with a ball peen hammer for an hour, and they would still be more subtle than this horrific abomination of a script. I get it...pick the 'right' religion, or die. Everyone associated with this script should be burned alive.
Let me put it another way...the OTHER movie my friends and I watched during our cheezy movie evening was called Ninja Cheerleaders...the story of 3 cheerleaders who are stripping for money to attend Brown University, all while being trained as ninjas by George Takei. It was ten thousand times better in every possible way than Starship Troopers 3.

Thank you. I almost picked SST3 up at Target last night but was waiting for someone here to tell me if it was a disaster.
Ninja Cheerleaders sounds like something right up my alley: cheerleaders, stripping, and ninjas. Life doesn't get much better than that.

(Hope this particular question doesn't get moved over to R&P)

The best part about Ninja Cheerleaders...between scenes, they threw a bunch of little quick vignettes on the screen (sort of like in the Adam West/Burt Ward Batman, with the spinning bat-symbol), typically consisting of ninja training, cheerleading, somebody getting punched, and topless strippers pole grinding. Yeah, is the character he's playing gay? I mean, so what? Just one less actor hitting on the ninja stripper cheerleaders. Now if the ninja stripper cheerleaders were lesbians.... now THAT would be an interesting plot twist!

Well, they DID set up a sequel at the end...we can only hope of the possibilities...
