All joking aside. I hope the weather settles soon for you. I am amazed that since Katrina that so little seems to have been learnt by the politicians.[X(]

Having once weathered a hurricane myself(Juan in 2003), I can certainly appreciate the concerns of those living in the Gulf states and especially in New Orleans. I hope that everyone manages to stay safe in the coming days.

I am here to tell you that they are no joke. There is no place in SW Fla. that is more than twelve feet above sea level. That's thirty feet higher than New Orleans. It just seems to me that if you choose to live in areas that are prone to natural disasters, that as a community, you should band together to make your environment as safe as possible.

The good news is Gustav is now looking like it will hit as a 2.

Good luck in the Panhandle Ox. Depending on direction and size, we may get some residual in North Alabama.

If I had known you were in Sarasota, I would have deflected Charlie in '03 towards you and let YOU deal with it. I'm sure you would have known what to do with it (This is not the city you are looking for).

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA you have obviously had the pleasure of driving in that area. You forgot the driving in the left lane doing 45 in a 70 with the blinker on part.

I lived just south of you for fifteen years. Saw my share of storms. The unfortunate thing about posting is, not everyone is skilled at humor and I believe my attempt fell flat.

My thoughts and prayers are with all those who are affected by the storm, especially any of the WG gang who are in Gustav's path. Take care.

You have lost your mind if you have not already fled (you live in the New Orleans area if memory serves).
I was on I-85 within 50 miles of the Georgia border a few minutes a go. Traffic was very, very heavy heading East towards Atlanta. It looks like all of the hotels are sold out short of Atlanta.
If you don't have anywhere else to go, contact me through my normal email that I used to register for the site. We have a spare bedroom (and four bathrooms and only 2 people).
Staying there is not worth dying for.

Thank you for the kind thoughts. We actually live about an hour west of NOLA. In addition, yesterday we evacuated (long story) to my parents' house which is over the Ozark Mountains in Missouri. We're fine. We will return quickly as my wife is a 1st responder for her company, but our house has a generator, food, and water which should get us through the worst of the aftermath.
Thank you all for your kind thoughts and offers for assistance. The kindness of wargamers continues to humble me.

I have been in more storms than I can remember. Of course might be due to age.
Anyhow I hope that all is well for you and yours forumites.

[sm=fyi[1].gif] The name that currently escapes you is Frances and btw the year was 2004 not 2003. An interesting year to say the least.

I know you were being Sarcastic, but if you end up [link=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jinx]jinxing[/link] it I'm going to be so pissed at you [sm=cussing.gif] considering I'm not to far north of you and a hit in Sarasota doesn't bod well for my area.

Status : Offline | Hi all. Thanks for the kind thoughts. We're fine here. About 90% of the city is without power. However, we have a generator and I just set my phone up for 3G service from AT&T before the storm hit. So while my internet speed isn't fast, it works. w00t!
We're doing well. The house was spared any damage. One benefit of the trend to clearcutting all trees to build a home is that we didn't have any large trees to fall on the house. That isn't the same elsewhere - most yards have at least one large tree blown over, some have several.
We're now keeping an eye on the three sisters in the Atlantic. Hanna looks like it won't amount to too much, but Ike (we'll call this one a sister for the sake of just tweaking our nose at it) looks like it could be serious. We'll have to see about Josephine. Hopefully Florida will be spared. Keep us posted on how things are going.

Hopefully it won't amount to much. I really don't want another tree on the house - the 40 foot blue spruce that clipped the house during Juan was quite enough!

I was here attending college in Charleston for Hugo and I definately dont want to repeat that again as a homeowner this time. Luckily we built our house and I specifically planned how the drainage was going to work around the house so I dont think we will have anything more than a few puddles if there is any flooding. Wind may be a different story but we cant control that.

Run away!!
