Two modsd for CC:The Longest Day bobbed up this week TLD Classic by gen Jack and battle of the Bulge by paladin. Each deals with the "classic"versions of CC released with the last two CC re-releases  WaR and tLD. Both the mods are played using the latest tLD engine so include goodies like night effects and rest/retreat battlegroups and are installed by automated installers that create a desktop icon to launch the mod.... Of course stock tLD is always available to play. have a look here  to download them:  http://closecombat.matr.../LongestDay/tLDmods.html

What a great surprise! I didn't expect any mods for a long time.

I've just bought CC:TLD and never played CC5.  I'm curious, why would I want to play a modded version of CC5 using the new TLD engine rather than just playing CC:TLD itself? FYI, I'm only interested in playing the Grand Campaign, and I'm looking for the best experience of that (measured for me by the parameters of realism, AI quality and epic scale). (I hope there is no long-running flame war around this, as I'm genuinely interested and not trolling!)

I have been playing the Close Combat series games from the mid 80's. The ultimate replayable game, needless to say!     The CC 5 included in TLD is NOT compatible with the original CC 5. I highly recomend you get CC 5. For the shear amount of awesome FREE mods.  You will not believe the quality of work done on these mods. The whole game changes.

Hi kasta, so are you saying that the original CC5+mods is better than CC:TLD + mods? I agree on the replayability thing.  I bought CC2:ABTF when it first came out and it is still on my drive: that's nearly 13 years! I never had another game that even comes close to that.

I think Kasta is saying that tLD will take a long time to catch up on CC5 for the number of mods available. Seeing as CC5 is over 10yrs old that is no surprise. But by 2020 I predict at least every CC5 mod will be available for tLD plus excusive tLD mods. Or we have to do now is wait to see if my prediction comes true.
