I found the Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition (with all the expansions) at the store the other day and I picked it up.  I was going to get Left 4 Dead 2, but I saw it had a requirement for Steam, so Fallout 3 got the nod.           I'm going to try and get into that tonight.           Question:  can I just start out in the bonus part that has the Maryland swamps, or do I need to "level up" in DC first?           I also re-installed RTW with the Barbarian Invasion expansion.  I am seriously debating with myself starting a new RTW campaign with the intention of playing through to the end.           So...what's hot for you guys tonight?

Playing a tricked out M2TW mod (Stainless Steel 6.2) as the Kievan Rus slogging it out with the Cumans in the east and the Turks in Wallachia in the 16th century. Solid.           Toonces you do not want to wander around some parts of F3 without getting some experience first unless you like getting some good buttock-whippin'.           And before you load up RTW: BI, check out some of the mods for it over at TWC. This game has got legs.

I'm glad my character uses a shield because I may be taking a bashing here soon.

Busting Heads at the bar tonight doing my part time gig as doorman. But Saturday night I plan a little Football Manager 2010, a little Dragonage, a little IL2 Sturmovik, and some EU III  Heir to the Throne.

I'm hoping I can finally get my Kharkov 1943 for BiI PBEM going again, as my opponent hasn't send me a turn this week yet.           Aside from that, I spend most the afternoon playtesting the soon to be released Operation Konrad scenario for Kharkov: DotD. We, the scenario designer and the testers, are trying to iron out all problems we can find prior to release. There are still some issues that need to be fixed/some things that need to be changed, but the scenario is a lot of fun. It is, however, VERY lethal (as in: lots of people die in a short amount of time, more or less), like Kirovograd.           I'm not too sure what I'm going to play tonight, maybe some Max Payne 2 or The Witcher: Enhanced Edition.

Sorry for the OT but I just love it when boyer describes himself as a 'doorman.' That's like Jarhead saying he's a 'firearms aficianado.'

Mmmmm.... The Witcher. What a great game that was. Of course that got knocked out of my top RPG by Dragon Age. Hehe.         I plan on playing Advanced Tactics or Time of Wrath. Of course, I'll probably end up playing CoH.

I whacked some Z's in L4D2, I played some occasional games until I found out this group, and we started on Swamp Fever. Had a lot of difficulties, but after about 1,5 hours of shooting, we made it to the river boat and salvation. We, of course, didn't include myself, who was incapacitated on the roof of a building, as the three other dudes were already on the ground, chased by a tank and a horde of Z's. On the last moment I therefore died and couldn't get the Swamp Fever -achievement. But it was intense, and I had a blast (pun intended!) Best co-op I ever played! And when you've got the difficulty level high enough, and are on a tight spot, low on health, you are really starting to get the kicks! =) I believe the crew in Generation Kill put it best: "Get some!" The StarForce-free version of Silent Hunter III (along with Silent Hunter II) that is being sold on Amazon.com was delivered to my house today. So I may reinstall SH3 and spend some time playing it tonight.

I really do need to spend more time with the Silent Hunter series.  I got the deluxe edition or commander's edition or whatever of SH4 when it first came out and I don't even think I did a full patrol in it before I moved on.         No good excuse for that.  SH3 I can understand because I'm not really a U-boat kinda guy.  But SH4- no good reason.  I AM a US sub kinda guy.  I think it's just the extraordinarily tedious transit to and from onstation that turned me off.  It is a long, long drive from Pearl Harbor to Japan, even with time-compression on.

Among the Amazon reviews for SH3, I found some tips offered by John Kane. In his review he mentioned:

You can edit the time compression by opening the document named main.cfg -This is located in the SH3/data/cfg folder that the game places in your documents folder(the same place where the game saves are found. This file can be opened with notepad or word document, just be sure to uncheck the box that says 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.' Its also a good idea to copy this file to a different location before editing in case you need to restore the original later. In order to set the enemy contact to real time you would change the value under [Time Compression] EnemyDetected=8 to EnemyDetected=1 I also changed the maximum from 1024 to 2048 for moving around the map faster. Then I changed CharacterAnim to =2 as the default was something like 32 and was making me seasick to watch. Changing AirEnemyDetected=1 to AirEnemyDetected=0 will make the game pause whenever an enemy plane spots you. You won't see the default message saying that a plane has been spotting as the game will just pause. You could do this for enemy contact as well if desired. This is nice if you leave your game run to make a quick soda or sandwich run. UPDATE: When I first started doing campaign missions. I only averaged 1 and 1/2 ships sunk per mission using 100% realism settings and manual targeting. After learning interception techniques and Fast 90 attacks form a subsim forum, I averaged 7.5 ships sunk per mission. So its worth your time to check out one of these forums if your new to Subsims as I was. There was a bit of a frustration factor in learning this game but it has layers of depth to it that make it rewarding once you have it down.
I haven't gotten around to installing SH3 let alone trying his tips out, but perhaps mentioning them here will benefit someone.
