the spg issue comes and goes.  over the last week I havnt seen that much but then I had 1 fight yesterday where each team had 5.  it seems that their use has become linked to what game events and specials are going on.

Thanks for the heads-up Starfury. There is always room in my garage for another tank! Actually T-127 is pretty decent from an armour standpoint, even if the gun is sub par.

The arty situation has gotten a bit better since tracers were put back in.  Now, if you have decent arty on your team, at least one or two will be focusing on counter-battery fire, which both reduces the amount of shells heading toward you, but can eliminate the other team's arty.  Or you could be on a team where nobody cares and they keep shelling you.  As I said, a bit better, not fixed.  I wouldn't mind a cap of two arty per game, though I think three should be the limit, or make it map dependent.  There are some maps where two arty can't even begin to cover all the avenues of approach.

I'm getting very close to maxing out all the lines of research.  Big hangup at this point is money, but I've got the arty researched to T7 and all the other lines researched up to at least 8, with 5 of them maxed out.  Only up to tier 7 on the French, but man those heavies were horrible (Still are at tier 7) I went through a lot of free XP getting through them...ugh.

So my son finally got his IS, and we are now working on the next grind to get to tier 8. We platoon, he in his IS, me in my T-43. We are getting pwned this week, something fierce.

Sometimes I really wonder why I keep coming back for more punishment.

I think I've scored the fewest kills in my T-43 than any other tank so far.

One interesting thing I've noticed recently, is a lack of Arty in our games. Have all the arty lovers quit?

No those who can actually play arty are still around, it is just those that just wanted to camp and shoot don't last long anymore and get taken out by CB fire.  They then rage quit and won't play arty anymore.

I started playing again a few weeks ago after a lengthy hiatus and noticed that HE rounds don't do the damage they did when last I played. It also seems to me that I am missing more than I was previously. It appears to me that arty and HE was nerfed.

The smoke trails left by artillery rounds haven't bothered me as much as the nerfs, but perhaps I've been lucky.

CB fire is still very hit or miss.  Sometimes people will do it, but more often, people are still doing the same old same old.  One thing that would be a huge help would be to give a large bonus (XP and Credits) to arty who kill other arty units.  As it is, there is no financial or experience reason to hunt for the arty when that E-100 is sitting there like a slow moving barn, because the reward you get for hitting the tank is significantly higher than for one shotting another arty.

One of the members of my clan shared a sound mod with us which I think improves the firing, hit, and loading sounds a ton, especially for tanks that aren't nearby.  I uploaded to Rapidshare if anyone is interested.

Video with it active for a preview here: http://youtu.be/zzNbwVNajNQ - And this doesn't really do it justice, when you get into a really intense firefight, it sounds very very good.

And here are the pieces of it:

https://rapidshare.com/files/2344211711/WeaponsV1_60870.rar

Wish I knew who created these in the first place, they did a great job.

Holy cow, Greybriar! Ten kills?!

And to think I was celebrating a 3 kill battle in my T-43 last night. This grind has been awfully brutal.

Well, Greybriar is using a Space Laser Of God.

I've only ever topped 7, I think, in a tank.  That only seems to happen in the low-to-mid tiers too.  Not done artillery much at all.

Normally I do well to get three kills in a battle, too, Slick Wilhelm. Early on in the battle I posted screenshots of my Wespe was nearly killed by counter battery fire. I relocated a short distance away and none of the enemy vehicles spotted me afterwards.

No, I wasn't using a Space Laser of God, Nefaro, although I can imagine how having ten kills might make someone think I was at least using gold ammo. I credit a Camouflage Net and a Binocular Telescope for keeping me unseen and allowing me maximum view range. That and a lot of luck.

My last kill in the battle was an enemy SPG who was approaching my team's base in an effort to capture it. I spotted him, fired and missed but he continued on. I fired again before he spotted me and got my tenth kill.

How sweet it was!

10 kills in an arty is a very impressive effort.  Best I've done is only 8 in my GW Panther.  Nice work!

I'm surprised you didn't get accused of being a hacker. I see that all the time now from disgruntled dead tankers.

I dunno.. Big bonus XP days, free premium time, cost discounts.  Etc.

I have a little gold on my account but I usually use it for premium time.  I occasionally buy an accessory or something, if it's on sale.

Well, sounds like you just missed the three days of x5 XP then?  That a was a big bonus for me.  Got me the IS7, Obj 212, E75, and AMX 50 100 researched and elited, even though I can't afford any of them yet.

Damn.

I usually only hear of these bonus XP days after they're over.

Slackers!

I ran WoT just to make sure it was updated, and noticed the Special that just started:

It's time for another tank sale, and we've also thrown in a special offer to help speed you along the way in preparation for the new crew skills in version 7.2!

Between 11:30 UTC on February 24, 2012 and 11:00 UTC on February 27, 2012 the following discounts will be active on the North American cluster. Curious what time this is in your region? Use this handy Time Zone Converter to help you out!

  • 50% off the cost of training a crewman to 100% proficiency - 100 (normally 200)
  • 50% off the cost of retraining a crewman to 100% proficiency for a new tank - 100 (normally 200)
  • 50% off the cost of increasing the size of your crew Barracks - 150 (normally 300)
  • 50% off the credit cost of the following vehicles:
    • T-34 - 128,350 (normally 256,700)
    • T-34-85 - 354,400 (normally 708,800)
    • T-43 - 652,650 (normally 1,305,300)
    • Grille - 73,550 (normally 147,100)
    • Hummel - 256,350 (normally 512,700)
    • VK 3001 (H) - 311,550 (normally 623,100)
    • VK 3002 (DB) - 693,050 (normally 1,386,100)

Please note that selling the above-mentioned vehicles during this special will result in receiving credits equal to half of the sale price.

Be sure to take advantage of these discounts while they last! The above-mentioned features and vehicles will return to normal price on February 27, 2012.

Too bad that every time one of these sales comes up, none of them are in any of the lines I've worked on.

Oh well, at least crew gold training is half price for a few days.

Some sale. j/k

I just spent over 3,000 gold and about 4,500,000 credits for 100% crew training and five new vehicles. I finally bought the T-34-85 on sale for half price. Since the T-50-2 is going to be nerfed in the not-too-distant future, I bought one in order to experience it in all its glory. I had enough credits to buy an M12, S-51, and an SU-14 but that left me with less than the 2,000,000+ credits needed to buy a GW Tiger.
