I'm going to make my first Panzer Campaigns purchase. I've narrowed my choices down to Minsk'44 or Budapest'45, leaning slightly toward Minsk'44.     Other than the battles involved, are there any meaningful differences between the titles, especially in the area of the campaign play? I'm planning to play vs. the AI and I do understand that the AI is lackluster in the campaigns. Are the scales the same? I've seen some posts stating that Normandy and Kursk are smaller scale, making them less appealing to some people.     Thanks for your help.

Hi SB3:  Have a look at this page here [link]http://hist-sdc.com/spotlights/pzc.html[/link] as it describes the series (based upon sections from the series user guide). The only real difference in scale in Normandy '44 (and some other titles) is that the units can be broken down into company sized units, whereas they can't be in Minsk '44 or (I think) Budapest '45.  The time scale is the same, as well as the distance scale. Basically all series games' basic unit structure is the battalion, which in some cases can be broken down further (e.g. to the company level as I mentioned); I don't believe any of the eastern front games break down to the company level as a matter of course, which isn't to say that there might not be company sized units in them (or that someone might not edit that feature in -in a custom scenario).

I recently bought Smolensk '41 and there are some limited company breakdown options. I'm still learning the system, but already having a blast.

Personally I like Minsk better but only because there are more larger scenarios. It's very tough to play the Germans as the Russians have overwhelming forces. If you are playing against the AI only then go for the battle that interests you most.If you like larger scenarios, I'd recommed Minsk.

Thanks for the advice. Minsk'44 is on the way.
