I'd wait Jomni until they put out the complete edition for $3.00 or something. Basically if you've got one of the series you've got all of them. Many say HOI II is the best of the series now after that last expansion anyway. Making History II is coming shortly and you can bet that one will at least be playable an although ahistorical from the start a much more fun game imo.

I recently bought both HOI2 (plus expansions) and HOI3 (minus semper fi) for next to nothing. I can't really get into HOI2.  The graphics resolution is just so low and the map is very dated. That being said, HOI3's map is ridiculous (seriously, why not just go with hexes at this point) and the unit organization, while interesting, is very tedious. With HOI3 basically being given away by stores at this point (including Amazon), I would give it a try but I might wait to seriously invest time into it until Semper Fi is patched correctly and is cheaper than $20.  But it is a major upgrade of HOI2.

just while we're all laughing.. [sm=7rotflmao.gif]    when I handed the attack on Poland over to the AI - leaving three army groups in command united under one war-theatre (?)- just to see how it would turn out...the AI requested 78 TANK brigades and 14 tactical wings to get the job done....nice eh? -    (I should mention first that I had already attached 2 Panzercorps with 4 divisions each, each consisting of at least 2 tank brigades and at least 1 motorized inf brigade...) - just to add to the quite numerous odd things connected with Semper Fi!

Vanilla HOI3 (1.4 i think is the patch) is ok.  I haven't had it crash or run slow at all, but I have noticed some major problems: 1. It is incredibly easy to defeat the Soviet Union, even going slow.  I've played through late 1941 three times as Germany now and each time, the war went almost exactly the same way.  I'm not that great at understanding the delay on attacks, so I'm not as fast as history, but starting in April 1941, I've never failed to reach Moscow by the end of the year.  For whatever reason, I can create huge pockets of Soviet troops, clean them out, and never have less than 80% in that battle rating system as my troops slog through the huge Russian countryside.  2. Finland freaking always joins the Allies.  I need to mod this out somehow or hope Semper Fi fixes it.  It is absurd to have Finnish division overruning German-occupied Sweden and Norway, so I have to knock out Finland.  When you do this, though, it creates a ridiculous front for the USSR war (which I always abandon) that the Russian AI feels the need to devote 20+ divisions to defending/attacking.  I have a similar problem with Romania. 3. You can build an enormous, ahistorical army.  I hit Poland with something like 3 Panzer Armees consisting of 2-3 corps (3 Panzer divisions made of up of four brigades each).  I have the numbers written down somewhere, but I think in the 1939 scenario, Germany has like 16 armor brigades.  I had more than twice that.  You really roll Poland and France, again even moving slightly slowly because I don't understand how to manipulate this 2 day delay feature on attacks. 4. The UK throws a ton of men away trying to invade France every few weeks.  It is almost kind of funny to watch 4 UK divisions waste away constantly attacking a  fortified Cherbourg. So, anyway, my question is whether Semper Fi fixes any of this and has solved its own (IC-related) problems yet?

Well....my $2.99 pruchase of HOI3 on GoGamer last week came in today's mail.  First time with this series but I've read a lot about it in the forums.   Should be interesting to finally experience it for real.

I had bought HoI3 for 5 euro's in a previous sale and now I got Semper Fi as well. From the rather cautious positive feedback on the paradox forums I decided to go ahead full steam, print the manuals and the strategy guide and its supplement and sit down and see if I can get the hang of this monster game. I am not too bothered with funny ahistorical quirks in-game, not about wrong pictures tied to units (which can be fixed by a mod btw). Neither am I an expert strategist who only accepts a full blown a$$ whooping AI to play against. As long as I can find out HOW to play the game and it provides some hours of fun I am happy.

Has anyone been trying the beta patches for this? It's impossible to follow all the issues on the Paradox forums, but I wondered if 2.03 had finally gotten the expansion into semi-playable shape. 1.04 is fine with me right now, but it is getting a little easy to essentially reproduce the exact same results every time.  I was hoping SF's AI improvements might change the game up a little.

Damn this to hell. Latest patch breaks the game plus creation of Vichy causes a CTD: http://forum.paradoxpla.../showthread.php?t=489896 Any thoughts? Should we hope it will be fixed or is it a dead duck? I'm looking at the beautiful Victoria II map on the demo with it's accurate coastlines (especially Turkey and Alaska) that were monstrous in HOI3. Why do Paradox save all their craft and artistry for Victoria II when HOI is arguably their most successful and supported title?

Vichy has always caused a CTD.  They just keep reducing how often.

If they fixed the CTDs and made China/Japan work properly (no superfast Japanese conquests) I would be happy.
