Potentially big news on DRM (and more), according to this:
http://www.crunchgear.c...or-educational-purposes/
This claims that circumventing intrusive DRM is allowable on a game that you indeed own, but I haven't had a chance to look the original ruling over yet.

Circumventing video game encryption (DRM) for the purposes of legitimate security testing or investigation
That doesn't mean you can legally circumvent it for any other reason. The only other mention of circumvention of software is directly related to bypassing it if it needs a dongle that is out of date and no longer made.
I'm sure that testing a game to see if it runs better without all that DRM, would count a legitimate research. And remember, you're testing for the long-term effect, gotta keep that DRM off for decades to truly measure it's effects or lack thereof
One mistake, and you're sliding down the razor blade of defeat, and a dull, rusted, and poisoned blade at that.
i see there is a move by some companies to remove DRM... the witcher (pc game) posted the last update which specifically removed the DRM, as well as other updates.
I for one have a serious issue with battlefront drm, having bought 2 games last year (pt boats and kursk) yet after losing my account info when i changed computers, were of zero help and were unable to retrieve my license key, leaving me with 100 bucks worth of setup files for two games that will not play. If i spend 50 bucks on any game (or mp3 or video file for that matter), than there should be zero restrictions on how I personally use it after that. There are some games i refused to even buy because of DRM alone, like the version sub hunter 5
