I have designed a wargame that reaches back both for the subject matter but also the gaming format.
I took the old SPI tabletop game Global War and reworked it, expanding it into a multi-level, multi-player, play by email game. I also did away with the paper map and cardboard counters.
WW2 The Big One is a pure imaginarium. The play format was brought forward too, pure text. The entire game is played via text emails.
I also did away with using die rolls, or even random number generation, to determine outcomes. Player choices, the situation, and conditions determine who wins.
The game is about the whole war, including economics, espionage, research, diplomacy, and even sabotage. A game turn represents a month and we do it in a relaxed way. Eleven days, not counting weekends, passes a turn. Battles can even span turns so players don't have to rush. They can start a battle on the last day of a turn.
This is a game for thinkers with imagination. I moderate it myself and have a game information web site to provide news. We have a game forum for players to interact with each other out of character.
It's all free and worth a look.
Hi all,
It is Sept 2010 and the game is still running and still in need of more players.
Please make some time to visit the game site and read the base rules.
Who knows, you may find something new, worth doing again.
Mike
This brings back memories of about a decade old, when numerous quality strategy PBEM games were GMed accross the internet
Alas, I just can't commit to this.
