So the player can control Japan or China...I wish I could get deeper into EUIII, this may be the Asian history game I have been waiting for forever.         Are they looking to compete directly with Creative Assembly?

I'm glad my character uses a shield because I may be taking a bashing here soon.

Wow! I will buy this expansion definitely.     I guess there is a trend of Japan medieval game there? [sm=charging.gif]

I'll be watching this, although can you really call it "Europa Universalis" if it's set in Asia?  Also requires EU3 Complete?  What if you bought all the expansions separately?

A 4th expansion for EU3? They better not make EU4 and drop all those implemented features, ala Sims style. It seems from the trailer that the expansion changes map textures/graphics. It makes it look quite more like Vicky 2.

Hmm.  I know I should be excited about this, but I'm not really feeling it.  Partially, I think, because I already have Shogun Total War, and partially because this feels like a very limited expansion that's essentially focused on just one region.  I think I'll be playing the "wait and see" game with this one.

If we take Hoi3 vanilla as an example, the base game does not have all the features of Hoi2's expansions. No expanded timeline etc. However, Hoi3 does bring some new cool features to the table such as the supply system. So I posit that EU4 will follow the same model. Hoi3 and EU3 uses the Clausewitz engine. I suspect that EU4 will use a brand new engine, possibly one that takes advantage of multi-core processors. It takes a lot of time and money to develop a new engine, so it's unlikely that EU4 will ship with every EU3 feature, that would cost a lot to develop if you include the engine cost. Paradox needs to break even too.

We shouldn't have ever called it complete...

Well it was at the time. You could call the next complete edition "Europa Universalis III: Complete Complete".

I would surprised if this did not turn out to be true. I expect that Crusader Kings 2 will be the last "Clausewitz" game and then we'll have a new engine.

As I recall, Paradox did an Asia-centric version of EU 1 (or maybe 2).  It was mostly available in the Far East, but it was included in an anthology available in the West.

Not that impressed and a bit disappointed quite frankly. Before watching the video I assumed that they were making something similar to EU Rome. EU Rome was stand alone and set in it's own unique world. This game just announced seems nothing more than a booster, not even an expansion, to EU3. It appears that there just gonna expand the Asian part of the map a little. They had a similar expansion for EU2. What Paradox should do is make a stand alone game like that of EU Rome. With the map as East Asia set between the Han Dynasty up to the Ming dynasty. Perhaps they chose not to do this because EU Rome was perceived as a failure, but I liked it with the Vae Victus expansion pack. Here is another example of the failure of the gaming community and not Paradox. If people had accepted EU Rome for what it was and not pissed and moaned about how it was not EU4, perhaps paradox would have enough confidence to venture out and make the game I described.

I think that whether I get this will depend on whether it adds anything worthwhile to gameplay mechanics etc.  As I have never been tempted to play in that area of the world, I can't see myself starting now.

Same here.  If EU3
W offers improvements to the game overall (in addition to the Chinese/Japanese-oriented features), then I may still get it.  If not, however, I'll probably pass.

EU Rome is my favorite EU game.  EU:R with VV is pretty good game.  I wish they'd make an expansion to add more provinces and enlarge the world map.

EUIII would probably be my favourite but I also love EU Rome. I think when CK2 comes out that will become my favourite though
