That's why I never bothered upgrading my old Harpoon3, from AGSI, to a newer version.  That one was left with an annoying bug and the new one fixed it, and as usual broke three other things.  The only reason I had considered an upgrade was that the old one had annoying third party online activation that didn't work unless I kept loading the game a dozen times until it finally took. On the other hand, I bought the Matrix HCE version and have been fairly happy with it.  Far less bugs, interface is way more friendly especially at high resolutions.  Perhaps when I have plenty of money to blow I'll get the newest version, but I don't foresee that happening as it'll likely only give me more Harpoon ANW(3) frustrations again.

AGSI was one of the first (I think) to try that online activation idiocy.  They thrashed around for a couple of years trying to make it work before (amazingly!) seeing the light and going back to a previous simpler lok/kee scheme.  It is because they were able to recognize (and back away from) the hopelessness of their DRM that I hold out a sliver of hope that they might someday see the light on the current state of their bug-riddled ANW.

Command is coming together very well. We recently released two more videos with a B-2A airfield attack and AL-1 airborne lasers shooting down ballistic missiles. We are currently implementing minefields. There is a Q&A explosion on our Command forum the last few days, be sure to check it out.

Yeah, coming together so well that the only time you hear about them is when they hi-jack a Harpoon thread.  [sm=00000280.gif]

Herman pointing fingers at others for dirty tricks - PRICELESS [sm=7rotflmao.gif] I know you're inching for yet another 100-post flame fest Herman but frankly you've become irrelevant to us. We have our own gig and yes it's coming together beautifully. It's nice to actually build something instead of constantly bitching about existing issues - not that you'd know anything about the latter we're sure [
]. So keep at your private little war with AGSI/MG while the rest of us move ahead. Cheers [sm=00000436.gif] Nefaro: You're welcome to share your questions/comments on the forum if you haven't already.

You guys should join forces.  Herman certainly seems to have a passion for modern naval warfare.

The real question is whether you'll be sabotaging your new game the way you tried to sabotage Harpoon.  [sm=00000289.gif] Unannounced Database changes [/h3] You just don't realize that your stink and reputation will follow you wherever you go.

My passion is for things that work; regardless of genre.  There are some really awesome games out there.

toonces: His passion is stealing other peoples' work. Skills of this sort we can do without. Herman: Yawn... Everyone else: Last night we had a major new breakthrough. Those of you who have been long waiting for individual mines (in games of this niche) with realistic underwater shock damage, are due for a treat.

It absolutely amazes me that a group of people who are allegedly adults can't resemble grown ups and just ignore one another.
You lose.  Game, Set, and Match.
You all lose. Every time one of you speaks and reveals what a band of children all of you on every side of this infantile, immature feud truly are.

Herman: Flame away, as if we care. Everyone else: 1) The Q&A fest on the Command forum continues; join-in and make your voice heard. 2) As part of our research in EMP effects & weapons, I need to consult with someone reasonably knowledgeable on the subject on some technical details. Anyone interested please contact me by PM. Thanks!

Since you have dismally failed to hijack this thread and re-direct it towards discussion of your own game, isn't it time to declare victory and crawl back to your blog?

The aim of my posts here was simple; to provide an update on the progress of Command (since others well before me mentioned it on this thread; there goes down your "hijack" argument...) and to inform about the Q&A process and the EMP request. But of course you had to jump in and make a mess of things as usual. Having done what I came to do, I can simply resume working on Command. You know, actually building stuff instead of playing tennis and seeking "victory" on forum threads. Feel free to carry on with your quest for Forum Dominance (TM) - just don't hurt your palm patting yourself in the back. -D p.s. For everyone's amusement, Herman's original post above was "Any time you want to throw your crap, I'll be right here to rub your nose in it and make you eat it". Let us all wish him a Bon Appetit, shall we? [

Yes, that's definitely the excuse you should cling to as you declare victory for failing to hijack the discussion towards your own game.

...and that, ladies and gents, is why arguing with a brick wall is more productive than doing the same with Herman. Herman's shot-in-the-back smartass remark coming in 3....2....1....

I didn't know there was so much drama and hostility surrounding the Harpoon title. I think most wargamers would just embrace whatever naval combat titles are out there, regardless of differences between modders and developers alike.

No offense Herman but as an outside observer to this, you are coming across as an immature ass.  Oh and what Spelk said.

I suspect that you are right and probably why PlayersDB scenarios get over a million downloads every year.

I've been periodically seeing Herman's comments about Harpoon and have been very concerned, being a Harpoon fan from way back. Partly because of not having the time (and because of his posts), I haven't played Harpoon lately to experience the issues that he has raised but I had alwasy thought he was being constructive. After reading the posts on this thread and some of the links included, I am not so sure 'constructive' really applies now.    As an outside observer, also like bboyer66, +1 to his post

I love Harpoon, always have, but Command looks good, I don't care who makes it as long as it's made. There are so FEW people in the world that enjoy these types of games that don't do it for a living, we can't afford to be divided. So, I will play both, and GCB2, and Fleet Command, and I will love every second of it!!!

I wonder if the market really is that limited.  IIRC, the original Harpoon was released in 1989 and I think that they claimed 250,000 units sold.  Although that was 20+ years ago, it makes you wonder how many of those former enthusiasts need to be wooed back if the game were in a functional state.
