Welcome back. Try to stay out of trouble, okay? []
In no particular order:
a) Search the computer games forum for a post by Jarhead about faster than light travel...there were some interesting comments made about interstellar flight and combat.
b) Tanks will always be needed wherever you need a big gun; AFVs will always be needed wherever you have a need for command and control and support. Their deployment for a particular mission is mostly dependent upon maneouvability, enviromental suitability and / or risk envelope.
c) But what about infantry-carried and vehicle-mounted missiles you say? Well...modern AT missles work so well because they have electronics that guide them accurately to their target, where their mission-specific (armor penetration, shrapnel burst, smoke, incinideary, etc) payload can do damage. Fine....but there are two problems with this:
c1) missiles are big, and move "relatively" slowly...so it may not be a stretch to see armored vehicles (or even purpose built vehicles within a tank squad) mount anti-missile defense weapons.
c2) guidance systems require electronics....so if you can find a way to defeat the electronic systems (directed EMF burst?) then you will diminish a guided AT weapon's lethality.
Of course, unguided missiles (like a bazooka or panzerfaust) may have some battlefield value, especially if the infantry can fire from concealment. And the best way to get rid of concealment is with a big HE round from a cannon.
d) force multipliers (like snipers, assualt and / or flamethrowers, demolition guys, etc) will probably also always have a place because there will be a need for special missions / ops and one of them is better than 1 "regular" guy.

Anyhow. I looked at the computer games thread and nothing came up on search about faster than light travel, you sure you didn't mean tech talk? Because I would love to read that.
I have to disagree with you that missiles will make the tank obsolete because you said it yourself that there are developments of anti-air defenses for modern MBTs.
This leads to the question on logistics. I have it planned out that there was an antiquated way of invading a world by having a lot of landing craft similar how beach landings were done in WWII. However in recent developments in this universe the planetary assault carrier changed everything, yet bringing in a bunch of tanks is a logistical strain. So perhaps it's not better infantry portable anti-tank weapons but rather logistical restraints.
Perhaps? I want to disagree with my own statement. (And no I'm not kidding)
Forum Police says: Azzuri you're gone.
Let me get this straight...you mean he's gone? Like really gone gone?

Hmm...for the record, I stated that "...tanks will always be needed whenever you need a big gun..." And then I went on to state the reasons why AT missiles, at least as we currently understand them, may conceivably become useless. So that is a confirmation of the utility of the tank...not a statement about their obsolence.
The thread on FTL is right here:

Status : Online | I disagree that anti tank missiles will become obsolete, even though Israel has successfully tested it's Trophy system against real inert missiles.

I am sure someone is already designing a way to counter this defence, just like how MIRV nuclear warheads would be able to overwhelm a Star Wars system.
So a way to beat the Trophy system is to develop an RPG with multiple warheads which will present much smaller and numerous targets possibly allowing a single penetrator through which is all that is needed now days.
The future is definitely going to go the way of Aliens, Appleseed, with Exo Armor suits. So take a look at those movies, they are on to something.

I will be bold to say that the MBT will be going away, as we know it. It is interesting to note that the US has no planned future replacement for the M1 Abrams, even in the FCS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_Combat_Systems) vision. The closest thing I have seen is a stripped down version with a really low profile and made of composite plastic armor. It basically a big gun on treads, which uses less manpower and can be airlifted by helo.
Invisible Camo is also a thing coming, where a whole company of elite soldiers could be equipped with this stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKPVQal851U
Exotic weapons with electronic firing systems that fire without any moving parts is also a possibility, which is being developed by a company called Metal Storm. http://www.metalstorm.com/
Hope this helps with your game.
