Help!

Status : Offline | Okay, I think I have one method figured out. Just paste each URL in your web browser, and the screenshot of WWIIE should appear. Note that the graphics come from Scenario #2 Poland 1939, and use the AGW maps. Also note that the graphics used will have some modifications before release (especially title blocks). Also note that changes may be made during playtesting, which is still to come.

Mid level map. Shows command panel display of hex xy coordinates and Polish units in the hex where the mouse cursor is at. No clicks needed. Note units have a text line where the unit ID/size is spelled out, and a text line for the commander.
http://schwerpunkt.wargamer.com/wwe_ss2.bmp
Low level map. Similar to screenshot #1, but this time the German units in a different hex are displayed.
http://schwerpunkt.wargamer.com/wwe_ss3.bmp
Low level map. German ground HQ unit and several air units are displayed in the command panel. Air unit type is the most prevalent aircraft type.
http://schwerpunkt.wargamer.com/wwe_ss4.bmp
Example of city locator capability. Pressing the "c" key displays the graphic. 112 cities on it. The text file for each battle deteremines which cities and in what order they are displayed on the graphic. Note St Nazaire is highlighted. Mouse left click, and the low level map will be displayed with St Nazaire centered. For Scenario #2 Poland 1939, I plan to choose the German cities on the Poland border, and the Poland major cities. Alphabetical order for each country.
http://schwerpunkt.wargamer.com/wwe_ss5.bmp
Mid level map. Example of Display Attribute selection. Pressing the "d" key will display the graphic and move the mouse cursor to it. Selections are highlighted. Mouse left clicking on "AF" will cause WWIIE to display the unit AF (currently unit type is displayed). Can select one attribute after another, one at a time.
http://schwerpunkt.wargamer.com/wwe_ss6.bmp
Example of Reinforcement and Transfers Report. Select "Report" from the main Command Panel, then select "Reinforce". List of all friendly units will be displayed as shown. PgUp and PgDn key will allow the player to display all units in the game. Entry and Exit turns are shown.
http://schwerpunkt.wargamer.com/wwe_ss7.bmp
High level map. Command Panel display of hex xy and units also works at the high level map. For this screenshot, the mouse was on Berlin.
Look forward to your comments. If there is interest, I can put additional screenshots out for an early look as capabilities are developed and tested. I do have limits on the online web storage though, so I may have to remove some before new ones on...

Status : Offline | The screen captures look very impressive! I'm looking forward to the game. I see you have already designed an icon for the game. It won't take much to tweak it to make it look like the box art of SPI's old War in Europe boardgame. I think it would make a lot of "senior" gamers very happy if you did.

I really, really wish AGW had this...it seems a minor thing but for me it is huge for the immersion and history factor (its sometimes hard in AGW to figure out who exactly you are fighting with).
Any plans for the AI or tweaking the current phase/turn system?
This will be a *must* purchase for me.

I have to say, you are building the game I would build, if I was as intelligent as yourself.
The screenies are some real icing.
However, I believe it is the scale and scope of the game you are producing that will make it the benchmark to which all other WWII games will be judged for quite some time.
I have a soft spot for operational level games, and WWII in particular. AH was my training ground, and I have to commend you on the games you produce.
I hate to say this, but take your time and get it as good as it can get.
Um, could you also take a few weeks vacation and work like hell on this?

Any luck with report text out for detailed aar's? Re:.bmp .jpg or .png would be much smaller in size. Agree with 5th here. Take as long as we can wait. This will be an immediate purchase for me.

@Ned72. I like it, but did not realize how close I may be to their art. Is SPI's WIE box art in the "public domain"?
@gabeeg. Wish I had done this for AGW also. Plan to improve the AI starting from the Middle East wargame version. Current Phase/turn is at:
Turn Deploy (player with initiative)
Turn Deploy (player without the initiative)
Ground Move (player with initiative)
Combat (player with initiative)
Ground Move (player without initiative)
Combat (player without initiative)
For PBEM, this means three file transfers per turn.
@5th Horseman. I do have some vacation time coming up before the end of the year, and look forward to working (really playing) on this. Also, retirement is coming up on the horizon, which means I go full time Schwerpunkt. Agree on the scale and scope comment. This is the game I have wanted to develop since I was 10 years old, when AH was my training ground. "Build on the shoulders of giants...".
@Agent Smith. Information is displayed just by mouse roll over, no click required. If you do click, then the cursor is moved to the Command Panel, and you select unit(s) for operations. I like the report for detailed AAR idea, and have it on my to do list. First I want to build a displayable report showing units and operations for each phase that is displayable. So far, this means 13 reports that are displayable. 5 combats, 3 Computer Opponent, out of supply, Total OOB with entry/exit turns, and 3 ops reports. The Ground to Ground Combat report entries are numbered, and the corresponding number is displayed on the map with the hex outlined. Links combat to map much better than previous games. Note that all reports can be scrolled using PgUp and PgDn keys.
Back to it. Labor Day plans are to work on putting operations back on the mid level maps, and to find some BBQ somewhere...
Hope everyone has a great holiday!

Status : Offline | Ron, thanks for the screenshots of WWII-E in development, very much appreciated. Things are looking slick indeed. With the improvements both in design and UI, I think WWII-E will become the definitive Schwerpunkt title to have in your collection.
Can I be cheeky and ask if you have any plans regarding digital distribution of the new title?
Looking forward to see the game evolve during development, keep up the good work Ron - you've got a core of people here rooting for you, your company and the new game!

Status : Offline | Thanks, Spelk. I have a long road in front of me, but the words from the community and yourself are very encouraging. My first goal for WWIIE is to move past that comment that has been levied on previous Schwerpunkt games that we have a user interface that is "clunky". We will be far from that.
I have not thought through my distribution method, but it is on my list. I do plan to have a ~100 page manual that will go with WWIIE. I wonder if The Wargamer would have that capability, and if they would be willing to extend that to Schwerpunkt....
First I got to build it.

WWIIE will be released in October-November just in time for Christmas. The only question is what year. Not 2011. There is a slim chance of 2012 (everything goes right, terrain array and scenario building is done efficiently, playtesting gets to the bottom of all bugs quickly, etc). There is a very good chance for 2013. Don't hold me to it though.

Re: SPI's Box Art being in the public domain. I really don't know but probably not. I think it could be a problem to try to exactly replicate their box art as a game icon. . . . But the box art has an aspect ration similar to letter size paper. Your game icon would be square. With a few minor tweaks in color and geometry to give it a slightly different look, you would probably be okay.
Sorry for the delay in responding to your message. For some reason, a lot of stuff doesn't work trying to post on the forum.

It's a bug caused by the new Firefox 6 not playing nice with the current forum software. There is a new forum system in the works. Until then, the issue seems to be less of a problem when using Google Chrome as browser.

Progress on WWII Europe this weekend:
1. Improved the algorithms on detecting hex xy coordinates at all levels. Operations now work smoothly on mid level maps now. Tinkered with allowing ops on the high level maps. It could work, but is really only useful for long range bombing missions where the target hex has an enemy unit in it so you get positive feedback of the hex in the command panel. Will revisit during playtest.
2. Began the task of moving cities from AGW to the WWIIE arrays and adding the extra information (e.g. city names, county the city is in). 200 of 1800 are now done. I have a few of these background tasks that I need to make progress on. The terrain array is another...
3. Found and fixed a couple of annoying bugs near the edges of the maps. 434 x 360 hexes

Status : Offline | Status on WWII Europe for the weekend:
1. Developed a report that shows the operations performed by the current player during the Turn Deploy Phase, and a seperate report for the Ground Move Phase operations. Completed all other reports at the larger font. The final tally is 5 combat reports (air-air, air-naval, naval-naval, air-ground, ground-ground), two Computer opponent reports (Turn Deploy ops, Ground Move ops), and 4 current side friendly reports (Turn Deploy ops, Ground Move ops, out of supply, Reinforcements). The combat reports shows attacks by both sides, while all other reports show only the current side (maintain FOW). The ground-ground report combats are numbered, and the number is displayed along with a red border on the map, giving a good visual link.
2. Converted another 100 cities from AGW to WWII Europe format. 300 of 1800 converted.

I appreciate the offer. What would be very helpful is an ASCII file (created using Notepad) with the xy coordinates of each AGW city followed by four zeroes (I can fill out that data later) followed by 25 characters with the city name spelled out. I need underscores to make up the reamining 25 characters. (the code converts these to blanks when building the scenario).
For example, one line would be:
133 71 0 0 0 0 Berlin___________________
I've completed the first 70 columns of AGW, but the rest remain to be done. The information is on the AGW map. Press the INS key to get the xy coordinates on the screen.
Bonus points if you add 56 to the AGW x coordinate, and 96 to the AGW y coordinate. This converts AGW xy coordinates to WWIIE xy coordinates.
Let me know if you are willing to take this one on. Send me a file with a few cities done so I can make sure I have communicated what is needed.
I am a bit overwhelmed. I don't have words for this type of wargaming enthusiasm...
Thanks,
Ron

Are there any cities/ports that span multiple hexes? Do you just replicate the information with the hex co-ords?
Does it matter what order they are recorded in? I was thinking that doing it country by country might be easier than sweeping the very large campaign map row by row, but until I've had a look at it properly I'm not sure.
I suppose a country by country sweep could be co-ordinated with others easier too. If there are any others who fancy chipping in and helping.

I do need all cities on a single x coordinate in a column, followed by the x+1 column and so forth.
The underscores on Lillahammer need to be removed. Looks like a hot link of some sort...
Thank you!!
