@Gus: you are quite welcome ( I thought I smelled something...). I know I've posted this link before, but this is to his livejournal page, specifically, his Not A Blog blog. http://grrm.livejournal.com/ It contains his musings on all his projects as well as their spin offs and (in season) his love of the New York football Giants and the J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!

Don't read Robert Jordan's "Wheel of Time" series, then. That one's got a cast of hundreds (literally).

I had planned on stopping at 400 (about halfway through) and then continue the rest once the series began. But I can't stop reading this friggin' book. And I bought the 2nd one in the series
I'm glad my character uses a shield because I may be taking a bashing here soon.

To late Martok, I just finished the first book last week. Did not seem to bad as far as the amount of characters. But of course it was just the first book.

"HBO's rumored budget for Game of Thrones is on par with blockbusters like Torchwood and Lost (at least the first season, anyway). Critics who have previewed exclusive screenings have said that the production values are, at times, amazing"!

Yeah, it's not so bad in the first few books. However, the "cast list" definitely snowballs by the time you're halfway through the series. Just to give you fair warning!

Snowballs in Winterfell makes perfect sense

Well I'm halfway through Dances with Dragons and I'm certainly not giddy....I'm downright po'd as Martin has decided to attend the school of Robert Jordan word vomiting and turn a lean and mean story into a fat load of crap. I think I have had it with Fantasy authors all together and I'll never get suckered into this bs any longer. First Jordan lured me in with 6 great WoT books but then lost his way... Goodkind turned out to be nothing more than a Jordan hack wannabee so I dropped his Sword of Truth mess by book 3. Martin had me totally won over as the best with the first three books of SoIaF but book 4 was a turgid affair and so far book 5 is not much better. His editorial choice of splitting up the pov characters between these two volumes was also a wayward decision (Don't yell that that's a spoiler, trust me is more of an annoyance than a revelation). And there is one storyline that is developing in Book 5 which if it goes the way I think it will, will be a direct ripoff from Babylon 5 but I'll reserve judgement and state that I was wrong if Martin throws a curve to that storyline.
I know alot of people knock Terry Brooks but at least he knew how to write a descriptive narrative concisely and moved his plots along at a steady pace. Furthermore, when he states that there will be X amount of books in the series, he stays the course.
Well thankfully I only have one more book to read in the Jordan series next spring (I will not give them my money for the hardcover release so I'll await the less expensive ebook version) and hopefully Martin has only 2 books remaining here (if he does not drop dead first).
