Hi guys,  I picked up World War II Online as a free trial account since I had subbed to it before. It received quite a bit of upgrades, as well as announcing they're bringing US forces and some new gametypes. I'm throwing this out here if theres any Wargamers here that play it and what they think of it.

Well, I played it from 2000-2004 back at the beginning. I admit I had a blast playing it for many years, but eventually it was time to move on to something else. If you've never tried it, I'd recommend giving it a try. It's not for everyone, but it's a lot of fun.

I've played on and off since 2006 or so. I like the changes they've made with mobile spawns. The reason I can't play this game consistently is because it's such a time sink. Anything that decrases the endless walking/driving to get to the fight is ok with me. I have an active sub right now, and play when I get a chunk of free time. It is a totally unique gaming experience, I agree everyone should at least try it.         The complaint I hear the most that rings true is that you spend 5-15 minutes getting to the AO only to die to something you never saw or heard. The fun factor is high, but so is the frustration factor.

I played off and on from 2002 to early 2009.  The game definitely had its moments, but I think it would have been a lot better with some kind of focus.  Maybe take a French DLM and have them fight some battalion-level fights against a comparable German unit.  The whole front thing was a complete waste of time and energy.               Red Orchestra and its mods was much more fun.

Not even on my radar unless and until they implement a cohesive and comprehensive naval element (and I don't mean running around with your destroyer on an almost-empty ocean where there's nothing substantive to do, such as escorting convoys against u-boats, or even driving a u-boat yourself).  Finally letting the war progress to other theatres wouldn't hurt either (North Africa & Russia natch).

I played it quite regularly for about a year and a half until I let my subscription run out in January. Haven't signed up again, but still consdering it.         If you do sign up, find a good squad to join as it'll really make the game more interesting and fun.

Played for a few years around 2005, always German (sorry dad) being in a organized squad was critical. Huge timekiller. I can remember 2 hour bombing missions where I would just sit there and practice my trumpet waiting to get to the target.

Yes, the waiting sometimes really gets to me. Nothing like riding along for an airborne drop for 15 minutes only to have the plane shot down as it's reaching the drop zone. But boy, when the drop successfully happens, it's a real blast.

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the heck out of the game and the squads I was in but it could become like a second job when the high command ordered a bombing night or resupply run nights.I remember one night driving a tank from like the factory in dusseldorf to somewhere in france and rolled it before I got to the depot over an hour later.

I love the game...but it is too much of a time sink.  Agree that Red October is better for this reason....  Also, much easier on the wallet...

It is still around? I just remember infantry being able to get inside tanks from underneath you and shoot the crew and other strange feats of physics.
