If you've never tried it, I'd recommend giving it a try. It's not for everyone, but it's a lot of fun.

Anything that decrases the endless walking/driving to get to the fight is ok with me. I have an active sub right now, and play when I get a chunk of free time. It is a totally unique gaming experience, I agree everyone should at least try it.
The complaint I hear the most that rings true is that you spend 5-15 minutes getting to the AO only to die to something you never saw or heard. The fun factor is high, but so is the frustration factor.

I played off and on from 2002 to early 2009. The game definitely had its moments, but I think it would have been a lot better with some kind of focus. Maybe take a French DLM and have them fight some battalion-level fights against a comparable German unit. The whole front thing was a complete waste of time and energy.
Red Orchestra and its mods was much more fun.

Finally letting the war progress to other theatres wouldn't hurt either (North Africa & Russia natch).

If you do sign up, find a good squad to join as it'll really make the game more interesting and fun.
