"Does anyone happen to know the historical significance of the steel factory? Would be interesting to know..." --It had nice tall smokestacks that the Germans skillfully used for arty observation. It was deeply defended and the Allies never made a real push on it until early July. In the end, resistance was not as great there as expected, but by early July, the German line of resistance was growing increasingly thin. By the way Merville is a tough nut to crack (somewhat ahistorical in this regard), but it's not impossible.   The AB boys have a distinct morale advantage here. Ever think to use a couple howitzers in support?

It happened often in my GC,that was the key to defeating those dreaded SS Armor BG.Nothing worse than having Jagdpanzers galore only to find out that they cant turn...sitting ducks.
