Wow, seriously? At five bucks?
I have a strange feeling that it'll still be abruptly short, but what the hell..

There are 37 skills (you take 7 when creating a character, or can just randomize 7), lots of primary/secondary attributes, plenty of buffs/debuffs, loot, crafting, tinkering, trading, and quests. Beneath the casual, cartoonish presentation is a very deep Rogue-style RPG.
As to the length, Nefaro, it's designed for re-play. Each game is a randomly-generated dungeon.

Will give it my sharp tongue after I've played a bit.

(BTW, if someone can tell me how to unlock a chest or pick the lock, I'd appreciate it. It's probably some skill I didn't select, but you never know.)

So far, I'm quite impressed .. especially for the price of $4.29 or whatnot. While the interface can be a bit tricky at times, such as when you're trying to click on a monster that's moving in it's square and end up moving instead of attacking (doah!), it's not too bad. The humor is pretty good and it's evident in almost every tooltip. The sounds are relatively few in number but they do a decent job and I find some put a smile on my face.. killing those little creatures results in a death screech that is quite satisfying. [sm=00000622.gif] While the graphics aren't anything special at all (hey it's bargain basement priced!), it does the job. I would've liked to see equipped items change the look of your character, but I can get by on the dungeon crawl fun.
There seems to be a lot of learning to be had as to what does exactly what. I love that exploration-type stuff. Hrmm.. do I eat these strange looking mushrooms I just found? [sm=00000289.gif]
I can tell the randomly created dungeons and the different skill sets gives it a fair amount of replayability along with the three difficulty levels. I've been wanting a good 'ole turn-based dungeon crawl and this is pretty easy to get into and play, but is still interesting and fun. For less than $5!!! I can tell there will be lots of sales & word-of-mouth on this one. It'd be good to see the creators keep adding to it, and take this further. Moar!!
Edit: Oh.. and didn't I mention? It natively runs in high & widescreen resolutions! How many budget indie games do that straight out of the gate?! Seems to be pretty stable and no major bugs I've seen yet.

Click to pick it up and click again on your Inventory button on the interface.. will do the same thing.
I've just been keeping my bag open though, because it fits perfectly on the end of my toolbar and there are a ton of different potions and food I'm getting so I can rt-click on them straight from the bag since the 10-slot item bar isn't big enough for them all. Now I just use the whole bag as a quick bar.

I've died many many times. My longest game, oddly, was my first. But that was with a tankish smashy type.
Have you ran into any of those huge rooms packed with monsters and their boss yet? I think it says something like "You've found a monster zoo!". I proceed to 'Oops, I crapped my pants'. Survived one, lost another. Best bet is to run for a corner, or better yet a thin hallway space, so you can limit how many are hitting you.
I'm still having a blast with this, and dying in perma-death mode isn't such a terrible thing for me right now because I get to experiment with different skill category setups. This is just too much fun for $4.50!

I've heard about the zoos, but fortunately haven't run into one yet.

I've not had any issues yet. But I've not been loading many saves because it's only been a couple when I've shut the game down and came back later.

Here's the latest monster zoo I hit. By that point, I had a mongo-damage sword and some rogue skills to help crowd control & get away easier to find a good defensive spot when they started streaming after me.

I now wish I had a laptop to play this in bed...fun romp....very fun trying the different skills. I never liked Rogue likes before but am enjoying this quite a bit.

If you like action RPGs, then you can't go far wrong picking up this bargain indie!
I'd like perhaps some DLC with:
1) character equipment showing
2) more monsters & bosses
3) more everything!
There's a lot of play there, as it is now, but more variety would be great. Having only two or three different monsters per level, some appearing on many levels, can get a bit repetitive. Fortunately, it's not huge long battles.. more like Diablo with a fluid turn-based mode; every time you move or take an action, the AI mobs pop through their turns real fast so it seems practically realtime until you stop and they're waiting on your 'turn'. That's something I really liked about Eschalon2.
EDIT: You can also drop items in your backpack by clicking on yourself when an item's attached to your cursor. I like this better than the other two or three options.

As soon as I saw it pop up on Steam I thought SOM would be posting about it too. Its been out on the Xbox for a while IIRC.
When I first started playing Dredmor, I kept getting Din's Curse flashbacks. Randomly generated dungeon crawling.
I've had a frustrating crash, just as I seemed to be making progress.
I'm finding ranged combat very weak in the beginning. So a sword & board starter seems like a good idea for newcomers to the game.

Now, can someone please explain how the Charge Rod spell works? When I cast it I lose mana, but nothing else seems to happen.

I picked up the Cthulhu package, while I was buying Dredmor, since it was like $3.50. It's pretty much old-school 16-bit style JRPG (think Final Fantasy I & II) that's pretty simplistic. I got it because.. well .. you play as Cthulhu!!
Thus far, Dredmor has been far more fun and soaking up my time. I don't mind the JRPG mechanics in Cthulhu at all but most others are almost always filled with ridiculous Japanese anime art, which I find both disturbing and revolting in it's more extreme forms. This one doesn't take it as far as others though.
