I'm glad my character uses a shield because I may be taking a bashing here soon.

The headgear(service cap) was worn into combat from the Russo-Japanese war up until the early 1930's until the helmet was introduced. This particular type of headgear was worn through the 1930's and WWII, but was used behind the lines for the most part as the khaki-field cap was introduced in the 1930's. Red means infantry...while yellow is artillery in the Japanese lexicon. The coat is an earlier one as in 1938-39 a singl breasted example was introduced. If I were to put a safe time frame for this Heitai based on the uniform, I would say post WWI into the 1930's...though this ensemble could have been certainly used into the war. Cool setup. Where did you find it?

Here is a pre-publication page from mine and Gunnar Abramson's two book set on Japanese militaria.

A team there is working on a gigantic WWI mod and they are toying with the idea of including the Japanese. The year quoted for the uniform was ~1916, which jibes with what you posted above. Well done!

I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power, than by violent and sudden usurpations - James Madison
