From what I understand Kolaches are pretty big in Texas. They are a soft sweet dough bun with various fillings such as cream cheese, prune, apple, etc. Or savory fillings such as my favorite which is ham, colby cheese and jalapeno. They are frickin awesome and make a damn good breakfast. A couple months ago I discovered kolaches when one of my coworkers brought in some to work. Since then I make sure she brings in some more at least once a month.     Check out my visit to the only kolache shop in Western PA    http://pitteats.blogspot.com/ [image]http://www.cafekolache.com/DSC03182.JPG[/image]

They kind of look like Chinese pork buns.

I'm glad my character uses a shield because I may be taking a bashing here soon.

They are Czech.  The closest thing I have found to them is the Kings Hawaiian Sweet Rolls as far as the bun or roll itself. Of course Kings Hawaiian is not nearly as buttery, warm, and soft.  Trust me these are 10 times better then any Chinese bun I have ever tried.

Yes. They are Czech as is my wife. She is from Cedar Rapids, IA which is like the Czech capital of the US.         You want something healthy? Try a prune kolache.

Most Chinese buns I have had are spongy and the bread itself is lacking in flavor. Plus they are steamed which means you usually dont get the nice browned outer crust. Now I am sure their are some good buns out there, but I havent found one yet that holds a candle to a kolache.

OMG Kolache,           I use to have a neighbor that made them for the County Fair.   She would paid us to help her make them.  Of course we we may have accidently sample a few.    Our job was to put the filling in the middle.

One of our local politicians has been trying for years to get the kolache designated at the official state dessert.  http://blog.southdakota...great-kolache-debate.htm Tabor is in his district, which has a great Czech Days festival in June.  http://www.taborczechdays.com/

Ohhhhh Kolache porn.  While I do enjoy the sweet filled kolaches. The savory ones filled with meats and cheeses are phenomenal.

Really, not so much. I think my wife got Czech-ed out back at the home front. Too many Sunday mornings listening to Joe's Polka Show, etc.... I'll have to ask her if she's recovered from all that yet.

Amazingly, I picked up some poppyseed kolaches just this morning for the first time in years. There's a big Germans from Russia element in town, so I assumed they were Eastern European. Yummy!

Kolaches are really good.  There's lots of towns in this area vying for the title "Czech Capital of the USA".  This one is close to my area.         http://nebraskaczechsofwilber.com/         Not only good kolaches, but excellent meats and sausages.
