That's what EVERYONE does these days. Personally, I think that unless you can add some new and exciting twists to it you risk chance of getting drowned out in the rest of the current steampunk wave.

I'm glad my character uses a shield because I may be taking a bashing here soon.

No. It was weird and definitely different, with an emphasis on relatively free vehicle construction, but I thought the objectives were unclear and needlessly lengthy.

Yeah, I'll likely get it. But I'd prefer something with more RPG than shooter.

I believe that most of the authors that inspired modern steampunk (at least on the grand scale) such as H G Wells, Jules Verne, George Griffith and Garrett Serviss are now out of copyright, so source material shouldn't be a problem.
I'd also really like to see a pulp-era space opera fleet battles game (in the sytle of E E Smith, Edmond Hamilton, John W. Campbell or Jack Williamson). Something along the lines of AI War (which I dearly love) in an old-school space opera setting.

The genesis version is a top down 3rd person shooter, but you earn karma points to upgrade attributes, and cash to buy new body armor and weapons. There is also a cyber mode where you jack into the 'internet' or whatever they called it. That is a completely different game mode. Its pretty wonky with lots of bizarre mechanics, but fun.

No worries, the Iron Grip Universe is quite a steampunk setting with several games attached to it. IsotX developed the FPS/Tower Defense Hybrid with Iron Grip Warlord, and then after some time branched out into Travian-like browser based empire builder Iron Grip Lords, and finally they rustled up a turn based tactical game with a very swish browser interface and some strategic options behind it.
If nothing else, they make stunning concept art. []
