Just like the US is planning for an attack on china. Would be fairly incompetent military brass if they didnt make plans for it, just in case

The u.s has also been helpfully building roads in the likes of afganistan for china to use for free to get at and exploit the natrual resorce$. If they did attack it would be be economic, and let them tear themselfves apart, then send aid and peace keeping forces. its all the rage these days.

All it needs to do is dump its trillion or so of US dollars on the open market...
Though of course, the downside of that "attack" is that it'll cost China around a trillion or so of US dollars...

One mistake, and you're sliding down the razor blade of defeat, and a dull, rusted, and poisoned blade at that.

Hope they do. That'll make interest rates rise and maybe banks would start lending again and get the housing market out of a slump.

US housing market is not in the slump. It is self-correcting (with some delay). For years it raced ahead of its real value. Same thing is happening in the UK.

What are housing starts right now??? That's a slump; every slump is some type of correction.

Right now all they have to do is wait while the US military wears itself out fighting every bush war under the sun.

A decade? For regional dominance? I think not. We've halted production on F-22. I've talked to naval aviators that are worried now over China's newest fighters. We've got structural challenges that could rear its ugly head if we butted heads with China now. Marine Corps aviation must extend attack aircraft they had already extended and slated for replacement. How long does it take to build missles? They don't need a decade.

If they did it with military force you are right. It doesn't look like they will. It looks like they will own the UN Security Council countries just like most citizens are owned by their bank. Those countries will no be able to vote against China's wishes.

Are you even able to qualify that?

Naval aviators tell me they're worried about their new generation fighters, but who you gonna believe.

but they werent allowed to use AWAC support or the full ability of their radar suites.
that lose also happened just before a Senate vote on procuement for more F-22's.
who ya gonna believe?
of course any fighter pilot is going to make his potential adversary out to be 20 feet tall and a fire breather....
that gets you more funding and better kit.
come on man, youre smarter then that.
do you really think that US naval aviation is in that bad a shape?

Question: When you're at a party, how can you tell if a pilot is there?
Answer: He'll tell you!
Pilots are probably the most cocky and arrogant of military professionals. The only group I've met more so are those on service shooting teams. My last two years I worked managing comm systems for mainly aircraft, and the concern I heard I found shocking. Who am I going to believe? I'm going to believe the professionals precisely because I'm just smart enough to defer to the experts.
F22 is a generation ahead but what kind of shooting war would we have to be in with China for them to make a difference? Now, I don't have much respect for the Chinese ground capability but in the 1950s the Chinese gave us a real time and the largest caliber system they fielded were 120mm mortars. We had a real advantage with our aircraft carriers until the Chinese put up satellites. What they once had difficulty finding they can now easily find. We are woefully prepared for anti-mine operations and the Chinese diesel subs are quiet enough to present a real challenge in channeled waterways.
You want to believe that China will be a cakewalk in a regional shooting war, go right ahead. I believe that those who would fight such a war have a firmer grasp of the situation.
