Conversion is never an easy task.

However, once attained, the fruit of the labor is...well....a fruit.

The interface in the PC version is a nightmare, go for the 360 version.

It's not very intuitive but I got comfortable with it after about an hour of play. Overall I think it is much improved over Oblivion's UI. Now that was a nightmare.

Bad advice. It doesn't take long to learn the controls of the PC version. It's just very sensitive in that you it's very hard to select certain things. But it's still better than any console version.

It's hardly a nightmare. Yes you can feel it is designed for a console in places but if you've played a PC version of Elder Scrolls before it's not THAT different. I have both versions and intended the PC version to by my main version and that is still the case.

I'll echo what Zerohour said. The UI is terrible. If you're a lefty (or even somebody who prefers something besides the default WASD setup, you're in for a real headache. Remapping the key bindings is a bitch. The numpad is inaccessible and trying to map other keys can have you chasing your tail as the game tries to reassign keys ahead of you each time you make a change. I've spent 5-6 hours fighting with hex editors just trying to remap the keys to the numPad (without success) and haven't even made it passed the opeking scene where you first get to move. Terrible terrible interface.

Well it's all down to personal preference I suppose. I've played all Elder Scrolls games and the UI is similar in all it's games and many games are the same sort of UI and/or key binding. Not a problem for many but a problem for some. I'm quite happy with the setup but for someone used to setting up a different way I can see how it might be a problem. This doesn't make it a terrible UI of course just not a UI that suits everyone.

Hey guys,

What's the setting that controls how the screen goes light to dark when you move the mouse around? Is it some fade setting from the game? I'm not sure what those are really for.

No, no it's not.  Pretty much every single other PC game out there allows the user to remap controls to his liking.  Not including this option is a big oversight on the dev's part.  All I can say is, if you're a lefty, either get a console controller or skip this title.  It's just to cumbersome to play it as is.

I'm left handed, and on top of that deslexic--mirror vision. I've gotten comfortable with the controls-as mentioned they are almost the same as Oblivion- except your "Q" Key is favorites and your "Z" key is now shouts instead of grab- which is now on the "E" key-which also functions as the action key which is kind of weird.

The left and right hand are reversed--but there is a mod here that addresses that:

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=82

This mod remaps to the arrow keys:

http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=257

Still not where it should be and I totally agree concidering Bethseda is enjoying million plus PC sales more should be done for PC users---The Witcher was a PC only title and when they decided to go console they totally redid the intire game-I do not think this is too much to ask. They really half-a--ed this port --but when the construction kit is released I expect total UI conversions to emerge.

Mine is arriving tomorrow. I was going to hold off, but the posts and pics in this thread wore me down. I do have faith that Bethseda will address the PC problems or I probably wouldn't have bought it anyway. Some companies I have more trust in than others, but on the other hand, you only have to let me down once to make my "list"......

PC Gamer has a link to their top 10 best Skyrim mods(apparently there's already over a hundred) including one that allows the hotkeys to be reconfigured. Also one that eliminates all spiders from the game in favor of bears. Also Skyrim sales are $3.4 million dollars in the first 2 days, not including digital sales. That's 600% above Oblivion sales at it's premier.

Thanks for the info, Sir Slash. Over a hundred mods already....wow! That's one of my favorite things about this series

Skyrim nexus is where i go for the mods.

The gameworld is definately impressive. Much darker and grittier then Oblivion.  Though i am about to play on a harder difficulty than the default adept as its much too easy on that setting.

If size matters....

Tells about the black soul gems. The majority of the Lore is found in books- and this time the game is not contrary to what you read -which is a plus.

While wondering the mountains it's a good idea to extend character view distances beyond the default so there are no surprises popping into view too close.

Enemies when near death often will beg....but if you don't kill them they'll get back up and attack. Still...it's nice to see them squirm.

Towns and cities are very well done---as is the moons.

I almost pulled the trigger today and then reflected on how little time I really have to play it...maybe an hour a day if I'm lucky. How much can you do in an hour here? Is an hour satisfying?

I'm glad my character uses a shield because I may be taking a bashing here soon.
