I have a little time at the moment and thought I would post a few pics of what got played this week.

Homeworld2 Consortiuum mod.

Its an Alpha released very recently for the first time. Compared to Armada 2 it really just does not grab me. We really need a homeworld3. Number 2 is good but showing its age these days.

Currently the Romulans, Klingons and Federation are playable. From what I could see they were pretty much complete apart from some music and voice effects. Their are a whole host of new maps included such as earth and the rings of saturn.

The problem is that homeworld simply cannot convey the character of the star trek world. Without a story mode campaign it feels very generic.

The Operation Star Demo.

I am having great trouble with this games "clunkiness". The way the mouse works especially spoils the fun.

This game apart from that has really got the goods and makes a good companion to Combat Mission Normandy.

You start off with an operation style map that allows you to move units around the field. You maneover like this until two units collide and then zoom to the main battle.

Unlike other games of this nature, when you zoom in it does not mean you command just the units that collided. You are commanding all the units from the strat map on

the 3D battlefield. This makes the strategic map a kind of pre-setup scouting phase.

From the Graviteam forums:

1 game unit = 1 real unit/squad/soldier in tactical phase
1 game unit = 1 real platoon (company) in operational phase

Company of Heroes...

still a great game to play coop with friends. Its also great when you want a quick fast game and have only 30 mins or so to spare.

Below my engineers are rigging a bridge to blow under the cover of an MG.. I blew two of the bridges in this game and left a third standing to funnel the enemy and bleed the enemy dry.

Was landing airborne in the rear areas after sending spotter aircraft in. The animations are still such a joy in this game.

Red Orchestra 2 of course got a run.

I am now using the rifle with bayonet and grenade primarily. Its great holding down the reload button to have your character check his ammo by looking into the breach

or some other method. Its also cool to see him reload with individual bullets when not completely out or sliding a clip in when completely dry.

The random comments your character sometimes make are also fun and very fitting with what a soldier of the day may be thinking. They talk about things like conserving fuel and whether

Ivan or Fritz might be close. A lot of things that are historically pertinent or just add to the atmosphere.

Cannot wait for mods and new content that is coming. Tripwire are rumoured to be delivering something for christmas

Battefield 3 got 15 minutes of play before I got bored with it.

Its a solid game but its so meh.

Deadskin sorry about that. I tend to post pics first and then add text because of the way the forum works. When I post pics I often cannot even see them until I press post

Nice pics as usual.  Operational map game mechanics of Operation Star is interesting.

Finally started a Grand Campaing in WITP and it's PBEM against Republic...  Sorry no shots.

Also playing a bunch of Online Field of Glory Matches, losing most of them, no screens, sorry.  More games and screenshots to come later over the weekend.

Playing Making History 2

Japan: 16/02/1934

Japan starts out with no oil resources of its own. Japan declared war on China, and achieved it's main goal of acquiring oil resources from China. Will continue capturing the remaining Chinese regions.

Next step to improve economy by increasing industrial output and building region improvements.

Then take on Russia(at the same time as the Germans) or move South to acquire more oil resources from the Dutch.

jomni,

I am enjoying it, but still too new to it, to give you usefull feedback. AI seem to be making OK moves,  but I am interested how the AI would turn out as the game progress and I meet stiffer opposition. And completing a few what if WW2 strategies for myself.

Some screens from Real Warfare 2. Things can get a bit weird when using eyefinnity (first screen).

Just looking at your screenshots and I notice something. All the animations for hundreds of men are in perfect sync as are the uniforms. It looks so un-natural.

press the tree button and copy the link into it:

No, I actually fired up Black Shark 1 to see if I could finally play it well enough to get BS2.  I just can't seem to fly with the simulation flight model.  Its the only flight sim I've ever had to give up on.  The controls are too sensitive and the constant trimming mean there's no way I could ever actually fight with it.  Its hard enough just to keep it in the air lol

Thanks for posting them

But the animations are not in perfect sync in game. I made these screens in deployment mode, so the units where completely stationary. The effect is gone once the battle has started. As for the uniforms, there are subtle differences, although I agree it should be more obvious.

Made good progress against China. Building up military then taking over some more regions. Build up some buffer against Soviets, then going to head South.

Good progress.  At this rate, you don't need to pick on the Americans and the Commonwealth.
