i have been thinking of picking up Europa Universalis with all the sales going on. question is 1, 2 or 3.  i don't really care about more bells and whistles. in fact in the civ series i like #3 the best and could not really get into 4 or bts. which would be the best entry point. mind you as i get older i find it harder to find the time and energy to pick up a hard in depth game.

thoughts are welcomed...

thanks in advance.

Get Crusader Kings and Dues Vult instead. You'll be glad you did. It's easy to pick up and it plays more like an RPG strategy game or The SIMS come to Medieval lands without all the bathroom visits.

Ck 2 is near release. Why buy CK 1 at this point?

Amazon has the download for $7.99.  May be a good intro to the system?

So you can understand the game mechanics before CK2 arrives. Plus it's at least two months away so plenty of time to play CK1 and have that fun an enjoyment before then. Plus it's only like $4 and some change. Surely you aren't that much of a cheapsake?

I purchased Europa Universalis III Chronicles for $7.50 and Victoria Complete (Victoria and its Revolutions expansion) for $2.50 while they were on sale at GamersGate. I even received Crusader Kings and its Deus Vult expansion free via a GamersGate email.

Sometime between now and New Years, I expect to see similar offers from GamersGate and other digital distributors. (But don't hold your breath waiting for another free game offer from GamersGate; it may or it may not ever happen again.)

I get FREE game offers from Gamersgate all the time. I'm in that program where they let you play a bunch of free games. The list gets larger and larger all the time and has games like UFO:Extraterrestials, Crusader Kings, Crusaders they Kingdom come, Disciples II, Elven Legacy, Europa Universalis II and many others just to name a few.

Aye.

CK2 will be awesome.  Wait for it.

EU3 Chronicles is on sale, and an easier way to get into the Pdox games.  Your campaign games start off rather slow (unless you start as an Asian country - fighting the Golden Horde at start), and you can ease into the flow of the gameplay after you learn the initial things you need to do to get your country up & running well.  Most nations slowly build up, and things get more interesting/intertwined with other entities the further you go.

I always thought EU3 was kinda slow and simple until I expanded a bit (via my nefarious international plotting!) and situations started maturing after thirty or forty years.  So the fun factor increased as time went by.

But yes.. pick up Crusader Kings 2 in February.  Plan on it.

Meh.. well.. if CK Complete is only five bucks, then why not?   It works on modern widescreens with a simple text edit, entering your screen res into a prefs file.

But if it's an either/or decision, I'd say EU3 Chronics and just get CK2.

Cheapest I can find it right now is $7.99 from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Paradox-Interactive-40315-King-Complite/dp/B003MQMPBG/ref=pd_rhf_cr_p_t_1 not sure if there will be other fees with that as I usually order physical from them and there's always shipping fees. This is a "download" though so I would think not.
