I also hate the fact that monsters walk right up to an undefended city then turn and walk away. I received a request to destroy some kind priestesses or something and I accepted. The priestesses show up next to one of my cities, killed two of my defending units and then just sat there. I sent a couple of more units and they killed them and still just sat there. I was finally able to build mages and get rid of them. In reality I should have at least lost one of my cities, maybe more.
Another annoying thing was during a war with the rat king he would construct buildings in the hexes where my units were standing! That shouldn't be allowed to happen.
My mage: "What's all this, then?"
Ratfaced construction dude: "We're building this here Magic Tower that zaps enemies to death!"
My mage:[long pause] "Right. Carry on!"
Still a fun game, though. I hope it continues to be worked on.
Evidentally the AI was still in the process of being tweaked, when the game was released. I'd be surprised if it wasn't adjusted further.
Challenging difficulty would probably be best for most of us as a default setting because Normal is a pushover. I think Challenging is pretty easy too, though. The thing is, the AI's diplomacy is rather self destructive and they'll all keep making demands of you so you'll be at war with all of them eventually. That might be okay for raising the difficulty, but the AIs tend to focus on sending their armies against each other most of the time.
Damn you all for talking about this game, I lost too many hours to it this weekend. I had a blast with it. There are some things that need improvement, Like say Diplomacy. Still all and all a good time.
I just purchased the Power of the Serpent DLC via Steam, and saw my Steam client download 1 item (it didn't take but a few seconds) But I don't see the DLC in my Library? This is the first DLC I've purchased I admit, but I can't see where to apply it to the game? Does Steam do it automatically? I'm thinking it doesn't, because I launched the game, but do not see the new content. I re-started Steam & the game and still no-go. What am I doing wrong?
If you build an idiot-proof computer, someone will make a better idiot.
It took about 10 seconds for it to download on mine. I did noticed when I started up a new game I could now choose the Lizards as my starting race and there were a couple of new option for the mage.

They're usually listed in the DLC list buried somewhere in the game info. But not always.
The way I understand it is that Steam downloads all the extras for your purchased games, whether you own the DLC or not. They're already there, just not activated.
In the case of this DLC, I doubt it was large at all since most of the large file-sized assets were already in the game. It's just a new Mage with a couple extra start options.
Game is good, but is missing some basics*. Luckily for us, the rumors that AOW3 will exist some day are more and more solids. Plus, I have faith in Fallen Enchantress, all bow before Kael.
*: unit roster, city roster, real diplomacy, destroy building feature, modder friendliness (you can't even augment the cost of settlers!), anti ICS mechanism, choose victory condition at start up, you name it!
edit: can someone tell me how to play it without loggin to Steam? That's darn annoying at time.

I love James' videos. How else would you learn what not to do?

I'm surprisingly not good for someone who reviews so many games
One of my problems when I write a review is to not tip everyone off on how bad I suck! Give me a turn based strategy game every time and maybe....maybe....I'll give you a run. But I'm pretty much a one trick pony otherwise

This is the problem with doing game videos, is that now people know the truth
I loved Master of Magic.
I loved all the Civ games.
Is it time to buy this one??? I appreciate that there are still a few kinks to work out, but it sure does look like something I would like a lot. Turn based, city building, unit building, exploration, the works.

If you liked those, you should like this. It can hook you pretty good with the one more turn harpoon.

You don't have to do anything to install it. It does it automatically.
You can check which DLC you have by Right Clicking on the name of the game in your library and selecting Properties. In there, look for a tab "DLC". It'll list all the DLC and their status.
