Let's just say I have a thing about how wargames simulate AT guns vs. tanks. It all started with a battle we had in Combat Mission Meta Campaign where my SS Pz-Div 9 lured the Guards Armored into attacking into a Pak front consisting of pretty much all AT guns in the division. It was a lot of guns and the GA division attacked with about 100 tanks in a massed tank attack without infantry support on a map which was 2*2 km. Due to the way Combat Mission simulated spotting we pretty much ended up trading 1 gun for 1 tank. Nonetheless it was a great victory for the division in that we bled GA early on - they lost a substantial number of tanks and we successfully concentrated ours in a different section of the front. This was with the original CMBO. The new version of Combat Mission, the Normandy expansion, simulates AT guns and spotting much better, but that's another discussion.


Anyway, this all leads to how Tigers Unleashed does it.


I have created a number of scenarios in which about 10-15 tanks attack a similar number of AT guns and in all cases the tanks take out the AT guns almost without suffering any losses.


The most extreme was just two Pz IV's walking into what was supposed to be a death trap of 4*45mm russian AT guns + 8*76 mm divisional guns (placed in woods and IP's) encircling the tanks. The two Pz IV's did a Rambo routine on the guns and took them all out from 500 meters in two minutes without suffering a single loss.


In another scenario I had placed 8*75 Pak's in improved positions. They were attacked by 10 T-34's. Immediately in turn 1, at 2000+ meters, the T-34 detected them and wiped them out with precise HE fire.


According to the 'sandbox' in Tigers Unleashed this is not supposed to happen, the T-34's should take at least a minute to detect them...  Am I doing something wrong? did I miss a 'tick' box somewhere or is this high fidelity according to Tigers Unleashed?

I've lost a PzIV to an AT gun today. Anyway, make sure your setting for firing are at "fine" resolution. I think that's at the beginning of the scenario. Also, did you check the LOS between the AT guns and the tanks? Sometimes sighting is not equal for both sides.

or saved game file .. it happened on turn one) stored

please upload it to some free file storage services, and please provide the link here.

I, (and maybe others here too...), would like to take a look into this issue, and maybe i can find the answer about the 'tick boxes' unchecked ... 

If i can't find a solution, i will forward my then documented experiments with screens and turn by turn files to HPS support.

Thanks for taking a look at this. This is the most recent example. Notice how the southern T-34's immediately open fire and take out the Pak's.

 

Question: why doesn't the AI move the tanks to the objective? I played it out all the way to the end and the AI stopped moving, never reaching the objective.

mmmh ...should be in folder:  HPS Simulations\HPS Shared\Maps ... thats where TU had placed my test maps  which i  had build with the geomorph-tool  coming with TU

It seems that accuracy and range is borked in game for some reason. It seems that most tanks behave more like their modern equivilants, getting alot of hits at ranges of 2500m to 3400m even by tanks that should not be able to get hits so often at these ranges. The game just isn't playing out the way it should and something somehwere is going wrong. Thankfully it seems were getting patches quickly. I these strange results are soon fixed. The only person who can sort it out is Scott, it's nothing todo with settings in game.
