So.....

im reading Beevor's D-Day, again. Just finished the Longest Day, again. Im playing CMBN, and Saving Private Ryan's on TV....... again.

There are a number on here who will moan about the pile of WW2 games we have to wade through and how its same old same old, but.........

Can anyone recommend any other DDay/Normandy games? Im right up there with the GIs in CMBN so maybe not squad level. Is Battles in Normandy really any good over at Matrix? Is there a Normandy mod for the Panther stuff? I just fancy getting stuck in and really, despite the cries, other than CMBN i dont know where to get my St Mare Eglise, Carentan, Omaha/Utah fix.

Yes I can recommend the MONSTER D-DAY game of all times for the PC.....D-DAY:The Beginning of the End. Made in 1994 if you Goggle it you'll find it. It's the largest campaign strategic AND tactical game out there. You think WitE is big? or WitP:AE? hah they ain't got nuttin on this game.

On the operational level, Battles in Normandy is the game to go with.

As sales proceeds no longer go to the developer or publisher I suppose this is a valid option as well:

or perhaps:

Either of which certainly beats: http://www.amazon.com/D-DAY-Beginning-End-PC-3-5-Disk/dp/B000BO1N1K - $67.50?  lol

Wolverine haven't heard about that game before. Interesting. Speaking of HPS games you could go for one of theirs. With Jisons mapMod they look as good as anything out there or you can use the excellent Volcano man mods or both together. France 14 (obviously not what your after) mod Jison made is a work of art. They certainly look alot better than the game linked above which reminds me more of a Strategic Command game.

I don't mind reasonable prices, but that seems a little steep to me.

The game I would love to see made into a computer game was the Monster Game:  Campaign For North Africa. Anyone else ever play that behemoth?

Here's the plan. We get the warhead and we hold the world ransom for... ONE MILLION DOLLARS!

When games are hard to find or no longer in print that's what happens. Much like a painting or antique cars. The industry is killing the resale value of games though by not allowing us to resell them or producing them again like hotcakes (GOG). I guess IF they got the rights to sell those games it's fair and just but sometimes I question the IF in that statement. I personally have no qualms of going to abandonware sites or sites like this : http://www.old-games.com/ as long as I've owned the game previously and just want something that will run on my modern day computer. Kinda hard to get these 5-1/4" floppies to fit in my CDrom slot. lol I also use Commodore 64 emulators to run some old Commodore 64 games I played and BOUGHT many years ago. I'd like to try an AMiga emulator but it looks a lot more complicated than the Commodore 64 one which is so simple to use. I want to play WINGS again so badly.

Cicerno, there was a group that only played monster games in Alexandria, Va. bakc around 1980.

Many replays of Wellington's Victory, Terrible Swift Sword, Longest Day, etc.

We took a few stabs at Campaign for North Africa, but it just did not click.  Looking back, I think the heavy dose of staff work for logistics for such small armies, just shortcircuited our interest.  GDW's Operation Crusader was an operational game that verged on being a monster.  Had some dense bookkeeping in it, and to represent the unique problems of the desert, you had to plot moves a turn in advance.  We did that a couple of times and enjoyed it, but the bigger CNA?  Didn't work.

Maybe the problem of getting water and firewood together to boil pasta for the southern Italian divisions, was just too mundane.

Wolverine, played a number of the original Drang Nach Osten, and then it's later version Fire in the east.  Although rougher, I always felt the first version was a better game and played better.  The later versions greater histocial depth and detail, made it more of a problem to get done.

I never started that game because I knew I would never live to finish it, being already in my twenties when the game came out.

But you had to love a game with a supply system that required extra water for Italian troops - to cook the pasta!
