Greetings.

I haven't been here for a long time but since it's Christmas (Well it's still. Sort of.) and I always play the old Panzer Battles with the Battlegroup game system on my old Pentium 120 when I'm at my parents at holidays I got curious about if there are any other games like it.

This isn't the first time I've asked here for advice about a wargame that play the same but it's been years so I'll give it another go.

The gameplay is done for the most part by the computer. You have HQs and formations like divisions under it that you can give orders like for example move to City, defend go to reserve attack and other commands. The beauty of this system is that you don't have to think about unit movement. When to withdraw a badly damaged formation, going on the defense because your out of supply, where to make your main attack, where to use your reserves etc is what you do. That you decide. How to do it is up to your subcommander that is the AI. More or less like a standard general.

So can you give me advice about a game with a similar gameplay?

Oh man. That picture brings back memories!

I've lost the box and all for the PC but have it for Amiga.  Liked that they always had strategy tips in their manuals.

That sounds like a cool game, before my time though.

You should check out the panther games title Battles from the Bulge, you can find it on the matrix games site.  It has good AI sub commanders to do some of the work load for you.

Or if youre wanting a dos game you could try fire brigade also by panther but from the 90's I think. Supposedly a very good game. Panther ahead of their time even then!

I enjoyed the SSG games of that period...the AI was intelligent...and the games played quickly. The closest game I've seen in a while is Unity of Command. The scope is operational, the AI is very good...and the scenarios play quickly. I think you'll be happy with the game. Good luck!

Unity of Command doesnt fit your requirement.I'd say the closest to what you want is one of the Panther Games at Matrix. Similar command system.

here's a link to some you tube vids for panther games battles from the bulge. Does seem to come closest to meeting your requirements.

I would recommend going to YouTube and see demonstrations of both games to get a feel for what best fits your interests.

Regards...
