Through my sources I have obtained insider information that the first air model will be called the CurryVette.

I have had south asian cuisine.....my question is what would the exhaust smell like?? Especially after it warmed up?  And for that matter, would you be able to control

the speed and frequency of the engine emissions?

On a more serious note does this go in the too good to be true file?

Thanx for the post

I'd loved this from the comments -" Will this car contribute to global cooling and the need for a compressed air tax"

I'm pretty sure they came up with air chariots thousands of years ago in the bhagavata.  Pfft.

I'm sure big oil will find a way to make all of the people associated with the air car disappear.

Well, there was a Korean inventor who developed a hybrid car about 7-8 years back.  It ran on compressed air and a battery.  Things were looking pretty good for him when DaeWoo and the Korean government shut him down, bankrupted him, and locked him up for fraud.

Air Car?  I am disappointed by the headline... I thought it was about a flying car,  a futuristic  'air taxi'

(the 'car' - its more an 'UAV with passenger on-board' -  knows its position by enhanced GPS and also the velocity and direction of all 'cars' in its vicinity over a network, which constantly exchange the data between all moving objects in the dedicated air-lanes. In addition the 'car' has object collision sensors (radar, laser, ultrasonic,...) to avoid any crashes with fixed or moving objects that are not already in the database, which is updated by the scanners of all cars airborne, reporting in differences between the last transmitted 3D-map-of its vicinity and the on-board scanner readings)

Adding "Bodacious" before Tatas would really rock the slogan.

It's only a matter of time before somebody starts calling them "Fart-mobiles". Put me down for saving the bodacious Tatas.

The compressed-air propelled car is only a periodic and old fraud, also from some years damaging the Tata reputation, as we can see in the first refered page, the air car will be in the streets ever "the next year" (as the full electric car, mainly Renault, in the European streets the past 2011). In this concrete case, the air car mafia modus operandi is ever the same, they go to a second rate city/country/university, and obtain some benefits/money/aids, promises a factory in the town ... and don't return, many times associated with Tata old/light prototypes (and sometimes with other French technologies, as the wireless card for open/start the car, as has my now old 2005 Renault Megane):

Quote:

Hi,
I don't know where the author got his information. Tata has signed an agreement with MDI early 2007 to use the compressed air technology of MDI in India only, in any way it wants. The photos shown are of a kind of early prototype by MDI that has been abandoned since long, and also the name Minicat has been abandoned in 2008. After having lost interest for a while, Tata now considers seriously the possibility of bringing to market a car that runs on compressed air(possibly in a hybrid version). MDI itself is ready to produce its first tiny city model, the Airpod, but for the time being lacks the finances to do so. The audience is divided between people who applaud this new green mobility, and others who say it cannot work or even those who call the whole thing a scam. I have driven an Airpod myself in May 2011 and therefor I can testify that it works. Have a look at my website www.aircars.tk if you want to know more, and read the regularly updated news section.

"...and therefor I can testify that it works."

Yes, for exactly 7 kilometers.
Now stop this publicity for a dead-born project. If you can't resolve a 100 year old thermodynamic equation, you shouldn't at least fool other people with it.

Quote:
The claim of $2/300 klm seems a bit low, you still have to use electricity off the mains to run the pump and I don't thnk it will much more efficient than charging a battery.

The 'exhaust' could be used to run an aircon system, but forget heating in winter. I cannot see western drivers suffering that.
Also power for radio wipers, headlights cannot be provided by air power very efficiently.

And yes compressed air engines were around when steam engines were considered state of the art.

Other links about the fraud some years ago in Spain and in my own city, Valencia:
As early as 2001, the same story, the same company, the same Formula 1 pilot, full name Guy Negre
mentioned plainly as the same "ex-Formula One engineer Guy N. from a Luxembourg MDI" in the first link, apparently the same text doctored in Spanish), and promising factory in Valencia and other Spanish cities and regions (curiously, the main car makers in Spain the last 20 years, as Renault, Citroen, Seat, Volkswagen or Ford, had concentrated his production in ONE big factory producing the same or greater number of cars, closing the other factories):

Referenced on 2003:

Referenced on 2008, with the poor Tata links:

The factory apparently in production ... on 2008:

The factory promised in Mexico on 2008 for 2009 ....

At last, important link from Hoax Slayer, 2008 with references a Tata dont implicated in the project:

Tata denial 2008:

Quote:
Since before year 2000, the air car has always been "production next year, or maybe the year after that".

Tata's announcement is in keeping with this tradition. The MDI press release about the agreement with Tata said that production cars would be available in 2008. As many times before, MDI was either overly optimistic, or purposely misleading in an attempt to gain more investment money.

Charlie (September 20, 200

Quote:
No word from Tata. The word from MDI is as always: production "next year". As MDI has done repeatedly, they got right up to the point where they had promised to start selling the minicat in late 2008, then it disappeared. Production date unknown. They announced yet another model, the AirPod. Production in 2010. Same story as almost every year since 2000.

Charlie (April 29, 2009)

August 2011 update: still nothing. MDI has announced several production dates, but they have all come and gone without any start to the production.

MDI has removed the "news" section from their website, perhaps to remove these earlier announcements of production target dates.

It does not appear that MDI will deliver any cars this year.

As always, the expected production is "next year" -- just as it has been every year since 2000.

The Australian engine looks good... wonder if its in production anywhere.

I wonder whether something is going on behind the scenes with TATA. Something sinister and worthy of global conspiracy

Tin foil hat on

As soon as they receive their backhand payment from the oil industry and the people who run energy across the world, the Tata will dissappear seemingly into (ironically) thin air. Like the oil industry is going to roll over and welcome something that would eat into their profits like a new system for running an engine in cars!

The beauty of TATA though is they can do it once every couple of years and then negotiate for more ransom... tin foil hat never comes off!
