The movie seemed to indicate that all other Fighter units in the US Air Force were useless for protecting bombers.
It also seemed to indicate that the Tuskegee unit took out about 20 me262s in one mission. A great feat.
Also that .50 cal MGs can take out a cruiser (not destroyer). I seem to remember this was on record as some kind of lucky shot in the magazine.
In their first air combat mission protecting an entire landing on their own. They destroyed not only an entire squadron of German 109s aces and all, who split off into single aircraft instead of sticking to the formation they invented, but also destroyed a Major German Airbase with .50 calibre with no losses.
This squadron is nothing short of amazing.
The CGI was great to boot.

It was a freaking god awful movie - a cliche ridden CGI advert that did nothing at all to portray what it in actual fact must have been like. I hate the way hollywood has to dress up world war two as some kind of mission impossible film just to get people to watch it.

However it sounds like it isn't. I remember travelling in parts of the states when
there were restrooms for ladies, gentlemen, men and women and not understanding.
I do not know why they have to take an epic tale and crap out a cartoon.
cheers

That's the trouble with most war films as we get farther and farther in the future. Sometimes people want more action and more visuals and something to pay attention to. I too wished they would make films as hisotrically accurate as possible but it seems that fighter pilot films just can't seem to get past being flashy and dramatic instead of truthful and within history.
Top Gun for example has the pilots pushing forward on the throttle to slow down, US pilots not wearing their flight gloves or wearing their visors down, etc.
But that's Hollywood, if you can make a dollar fifty over a dollar fourty, they'll do what ever is possible.
The Tuskegee Airmen movie wasn't that bad (which also had Cuba Gooding Jr) and Memphis Belle is decent in that they generalize most of the facts into one movie to make a "war film soup" which gives it enough character and emotion to carry it without feeling cheesy and cheap.

Views reflect pretty much those expressed here, but in more detail.
My personal opinion is, if you're going to make a historical war drama, you had better get it accurate, in context, warts and all, in order that those depicted and all others concerned are represented fairly.
Very few people are priviledge to be given the money and the forum to present these stories to the public, they hold a great responsibility. It's a real shame when it's squandered with adoloscent action scenes, simplified stereotypes and plot.
Do it justice or don't do it!
You would think that something like Band of Brothers would've set the standard.
