Why would Cossacks born and raised near, say Odessa, 'know' the country around Smolensk? It could be their first time in the area.

As to how the game models cossacks, some of it is hard coded, most of it is in the OOB file. Just make an alternate set of OOB/SCN files to make the behave how you think they should. This goes for almost every unit type in the game.

No need to preach about how badly something is portrayed in the system, really. Just make a mod. :-)

Get a pommel grip, Ali!

No one is preaching, just stating some little known truths by highlighting some alternative perspectives.

Still not fact or truths (yet), just opinion. Can be transformed into aforementioned fact by use of reference citation(s).

Same as in any real historical discussion.

Edit - of course the reference citations have to be more than just someone's opinion too (but a citation is a start).

Go out on a Moreton Bay Fig tree limb and just trust me.

At least, for old time's sake.

OH PLEASE SOUND THIS OUT ACROSS THE GLOBE AL! Sheesh, if you don't like it get out a text editor, copy the file and edit the Cossack type to be L instead of K. Or use Ultra Edit, copy all of the OBs in the game to a new folder and point Ultra Edit to it and do a Replace in File command. Then make a copy of the scenario and change the name of the OB file to go with your new version.

Then post the hundreds of occasions where Cossacks broke squares, destroyed entire brigades and smashed up grand batteries on a regular basis with frontal assaults ON THE BATTLEFIELD.

I never fail to get a laugh out of the Cossack issue. I had a guy hound me on a club forum on this topic too.

Believe what you want to believe. ET and I had lunch together with Elvis yesterday too. And I have some swamp land in Texas to sell you ...

I go with Al on this. Even the morales for the average unit were debated on our club forum and one group is downgrading the morale of line units down from B and C to D and E morale so that they end up taking less losses. That is how you resolve a difference. Use the scenario editor if you do not like the location of a unit or change the victory level numbers if you think the scenario is unbalanced. Add in more ammo. Etc.

Hey, whatever floats your boat. Folks play with different styles and playtesting only reveals so much.

We have folks in our club (Napoleonic Wargame Club) who ram Cossacks at formed cavalry to disorder and fatigue them and then they use the regular Russian cavalry to follow up on the next turns. Historical? Show me the sources on that one ...
