getting ready for an Oct 2012 release. Say bye bye Vista and Win7, hello Win8 and more milk money to Microsoft.

What are you talking about? They aren't dropping Windows 7 and Vista and making everyone move on. If anything, Win 8 is more related to MS chasing the mobile market.

They also have released a newer iteration of their OS every couple years since the 90s.  Win8 being released this year should surprise no one who has owned a computer in the past.

Yeah, that's what I thought, with the inclusion of the Windows Mobile menu style designed for touchscreens.

Windows 7 works just fine.

If you don't mind having to reorganize your folder settings all the time. Win 7 is a great improvement over Vista but I hate the folder settings quirk and also no PDF thumbnails in 64-bit. Just two minor gripes but the folder one is especially tedious.

Apart from that, Windows 7 is very good.

Support for Win7 Home Premium is scheduled out to 2015. I'll worry about then.

Windows 8 will be mainly focused on mobility, so I would expect Win 7 to be the main OS for Desktops still.

Or should I say:

Windows 7 works just fine...for a Microsoft operating system.

Still using Vista 64, and have never had any issues with it.  I'll upgrade again when I get a new system.

MS seems to be making Feb 29 a big day.

It's also the realse date of Microsoft Flight.

Which in effect is saying just fine, and better than the alternatives.

The other alternate OS available have their place for certain needs and users, and they excel in some situations.  But for the generalist, I don't think any of them quite make the grade in comparison as yet; though the once wide gap is narrowing considerably.
