Not what I read. I read AI and multiplayer. I can't see anywhere that the AI has just been tacked on. If it has then that soirt of defeats the object of bringing it to the PC. That being the case I very much doubt that the AI has been tacked on. I believe it would have been the mani focus point in development.
The way you think it's been done you may aswell buy the baordgame and use VASSAL.
As a developer with WCS, I can assure you that the AI is not "tacked on." it has always been a programming and testing priority.

Wargamers screaming "DOOM!"? That doesn't happen often does it?

It's not in the first release because 1) we wanted that to be essentially the original boardgame (plus extra scenarios), and 2) it would involve an awful lot of work and testing, and thus would have delayed release considerably. So while I've learned over the years not to make promises about potential features, I can promise that we will seriously think about making this a feature.

Coming in early April! The computer version of Conflict of Heroes - Awakening the Bear.
I just went back to the Matrix site, and it still says:
Conflict of Heroes: Awakening the Bear!will be released in late March and will be available for $39.99 Download / $49.99 Physical through the Matrix Games and Slitherine online stores.
So what's the real story?

Who knows? They are apparently charging $10 more than Matrix, too.

I'm sure the real story is that they don't know for sure when the game will be finished.

Yes it will cover the counters at some angles, as the terrain is 3D evenwhen using the chits.... which if you look closely are 3D as well just shorter that then trees.
When viewed from directly above there is no blockage.

I have not played the board game either but I believe it is much more than Barbarossa. If interested, you can check out some of the videos at BGG concerning the boardgame version which illustrates gameplay quite well.

Well since I plan to play with the traditional 2D board and counters, then it is ok by me......

It's much more tactical. Units are individual vehicles or squads of men or weapon teams (MG's, ATG's etc).

Curiously, the game has completely disappeared from the Store listings on BOTH sites. WTH?

Jag, I assume you have a review copy. How friendly is it to someone who has never played the board game?

It plays out like a standard turn based game - though it's turn based in the sense that you take and action, the AI takes an action and so on and so forth - an action being moving a hex or firing.
It's easier than the boardgame for obvious reasons (computer doing all the maintaining) - but moreso because the activation/reaction system has been removed.
In the boardgame, you activated a unit and you moved/fired with that unit until it was out of APs (action points) and you could do nothing else with any of your other units unless they reacted to a reaction by the opponent. In the computer version, as stated above, you take an action and then the AI takes an action - and your action can be ANY unit on the field
It's not a difficult game in terms of playing...you will pick it up easy and there is NO prior knowledge of the boardgame required at all.
