Finally had to get it at this price. I'll learn how it works and then buy the expansions at Norbsoft.

Do the expansions from Norbsoft work with the Impulse version?  I'd like the buy it at the sale price, but I know that often you have to use expansions or updates from the same download source as the original game .

Oh-oh, didn't think of that.

I'm not sure of it, but I think Impulse games don't have their own software modified into their games' codes, like Steam does.  So it's probably just fine..

To be sure.. did you have to 'activate/register' your copy after starting it, to get the full version?  And if you apply the latest official update from the SOW website, and it works, then you're good to go.

Snapped this up at this price - flexible pricing sells games, shame not everyone's caught up yet.

NOW let there be LAN games...

I had no problem with the original price structure, but this price point makes this one of the best gaming values I can remember.

Best,

Some Steam games do, some don't. Kind of a crapshoot.

AFAIK only some Paradox titles can be copied and ran without the Steam client being involved.  Are there others or you talking about circumventing it with cracks?

I was able to use the Scourge of War password from Impulse with the install file downloaded directly from Norbsoft's site, so adding Pipe Creek and Antietam later shouldn't be a problem. It's still on sale today at Impulse.

I like the sound of the game mechanics. However being that I'm not an American my interest in the Civil War is pretty much zero and my knowledge about it nearly as low. So I will pass.

It sounds like a 3D version of Sid Miers civil war games.

I'd probably buy if it had been Napoleonic as I''m looking for a game that covers that period. Again thouhg my knowlegde is low. I believe Histwar maybe similar. Anyone know if it is?

I just finished reading the new Gettysburg novel, _Cain at Gettysburg_ by Ralph Peters.  It was very good, if a little melodramatic at times.  Anyway I'm psyched to play the game.

There is actually a very good and growing Napoleonic mod for SOW - you can find details in the Modifications section of the SOW forum.

I'd be a bit surprised Norb & co hasn't considered creating a Napoleonic version with this engine yet.   Surely that would expand their customer base further.

I have nothing against the Histwar people, but the SoW engine would beat the pants off it, hands down.

Soooo...

How have the new adopters settled in?

I need to pick up the Antietam add-on soon.   But the game budget is stretched after splurging on something new (CMBN).  Still, this series is a strong contender for Greatest Strat game of all time.   Perhaps we could get a multi-multiplayer game going with some of the Wargamer peeps soon?  Perhaps with each in command of their own Division?

No cracks. Depending on the game, you can buy an addon from Gamersgate or Impulse and just layer it over Steam's version and it will work fine.

LOL.  Well, yes.  I think Steam only modifies vanilla's executable file, so if everything else is the same then the new Exe will overwrite the Steam one and *POOF*.

That probably wouldn't work out so well if the game also has a license key or something else to it, though, as they may not be shared between retailers.
